Women & Infants Hospital is Hiring a Post Doctoral Research Fellow - Pediatrics Near Providence, RI

Overview:

An exceptional opening exists for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the research laboratory led by Dr. Xiaodi Chen, situated within the Department of Pediatrics at the Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, affiliated with The Alpert Medical School of Brown University. This position offers an extraordinary opportunity to engage in pioneering research on neonatal rodents exposed to hypoxia-ischemia-induced brain injury. Funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), our research aims to elucidate the multifaceted effects of a neuroprotective agent, focusing on aspects such as cell death signaling, immuno-responses, and blood-brain barrier function.

Coordinates with other members of a specialized scientifically-based exploration or study team to facilitate the conduct of biomedical research in the hospital. Manages various aspects of assigned hospital facilities for research purposes and monitors quality control and safety of research activities.

Responsibilities:

Advanced In vivo Experiments: Carry out in vivo animal experimentation, including surgical procedures on neonatal rat models, adhering to rigorous ethical standards.

Molecular and Cellular Analyses: Conduct benchwork techniques in neuroscience, molecular biology, and immunohistochemistry.

Data Management and Statistical Analysis: Responsible for capturing, maintaining, and statistically analyzing research data.

Publication and Grant Writing: Actively engage in manuscript preparation for peer-reviewed journals and contribute to grant applications.

Mentorship: Offer guidance to junior lab members and possibly teach courses or seminars.

Specifications:

Educational Requirements: Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, or closely related fields. Technical Proficiency: Demonstrable expertise in in vivo animal experimentation, particularly with rodents, is required.

Specialized Skills: Prior experience with rodent surgical procedures, neurobehavioral assessments, MRI technology, and handling radioactive materials is highly favored.

Research and Writing Skills: Proven record of research and academic writing, including publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Analytical Acumen: Proficiency in statistical analysis and data interpretation is essential.
