Women of Nations is Hiring a Trauma Support Staff Near Saint Paul, MN

PROGRAM MISSION:

Women of Nations provides culturally specific emergency services and support to all who have experienced trauma from domestic violence and sexual Assault. We empower Native American communities to put an end to all forms of violence through education and prevention services.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for assisting Women of Nations’ residents with their day-to-day activities. This position is the main contact person for incoming residents, current residents, and outgoing residents. This position will help shelter residents with various issues including recovering from symptoms of trauma of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking, as well as mental illness, emotional trauma, and chemical abuse problems. A person in this position must have the ability maintain a calm disposition, and must be able to show compassion through difficult situations. This individual must be comfortable working with diverse cultures, and social-economic backgrounds. Help maintain a safe and secure shelter. Assist Administration, the Shelter and Outreach when deemed necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Experience working with individuals recovering from symptoms of trauma of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking, as well as mental illness, emotional trauma, and chemical abuse problems.

· Must have the ability to communicate accurately and clearly both orally and in writing;

· High School Degree Required, post High School education preferred

· Customer service oriented with a pleasant telephone manner

· Knowledge of computers; specifically experience in Microsoft Office is preferable.

· Excellent problem solving and people skills

· Must be able to lift at least 50lbs and go up 4 flights of stairs on a semi-frequent basis.

· The applicant shall not have been a resident of Eagles Nest Shelter for a period of two years, prior to applying for this job.

· MUST have the ability to work flexible hours. Schedule will vary from week to week.

3. Work with people recovering from traumatic events, who are in varying stages of the healing process.

5. Exemplify professional conduct and handle stressful situations well.

6. Establish and maintain professional boundaries and ethics.

7. Conduct oneself in a non-violent, non-judgmental manner

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Primary phone coverage including Crisis Calls referred from the MN domestic violence hotline.

2. Supervise and assist residents during meal preparation, with housekeeping responsibilities, personal hygiene, or other activities as needed.

3. Be a responsible and stabilizing presence during day and evening hours. In an emergency, quickly contact administrative staff and follow WON’s emergency procedures.

4. Maintain positive communication with shelter residents, and other staff members.

5. Intervention in crisis situations to assure the safety of residents, staff, and shelter property.

6. Function as an integral part of the clinical team by providing direct therapeutic services to residents.

7. Manage the bed board, bed count, client tracking system, and DayOne availability

8. Ensure the building stays clean and orderly, educate/assist residents with their daily chores.

9. Correct unacceptable behavior; help residents meet the necessary requirements of the shelter’s rules.

10. Provide transportation to residents as needed.

11. Maintain accurate records including donation records, resident interactions, observations, goal setting, chore assignments, incident reports, and other monitoring forms & records as assigned.

12. Assist in general upkeep and repair of the facility; such as, but not limited to: Keeping vehicles clean, Cleaning common areas inside and outside of the shelter, and notifying your supervisor immediately about major issues of concern.

13. Participate in staff trainings, be well trained and familiar with the program used by WON.

14. Perform other duties as assigned
