OVERVIEW

The Pastor of Group Life fosters Group Life environments to help individuals find their place to connect and grow within the church community. This role reports to the Executive Pastor of Discipleship and will effectively influence multi-site strategies to minister to attendees and build biblical community. This role provides holistic leadership for all processes, volunteers, and participants of Group Life endeavors. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Recruit, develops, trains, motivates, and retains volunteer leaders
• Assist the Executive Pastor of Discipleship in coordinating a Discipleship Pathway implemented across campuses
• Oversee the development and implementation of a Group Life volunteer team that effectively leads ministries to live out a disciple-making movement within their ministry areas 
• Recruit quality teachers to provide Bible-based instruction that aligns with Wooddale’s Statement of Faith and supports Wooddale’s mission and vision for Group Life 
• Meet regularly with Group Life team leaders for accountability, equipping, and encouragement
• Grow all Group Life ministries (LifeGroups, Community Groups, 1:1 Discipleship, Men’s Ministry, and Bible Studies/Classes) to be the integral way the congregation is engaged in the ministry of Wooddale Church 
• Ensure the vetting of outside speakers/teachers
  1. Community Groups
     • Oversee a Community Group volunteer team that promotes community, evangelism, and discipleship through our Sunday morning Community Groups
     • Maintain plans and records of Community Group programs and events
     • Work with Communications and Connections to ensure Community Group schedules and activities are promoted in a way that aligns with our overall communication plan
     • Teach in Community Groups as needed
  2. Life Groups
     • Recruit, train, and coach Life Group leaders and coaches for a volunteer-led ministry
     • Establish effective, relevant, and engaging LifeGroup leader and coach resource materials that nurture disciple-making
     • Plan and implement consistent Life Group leader meetings to promote the development and encouragement of Life Group leaders
     • Report on the effectiveness and health of Life Groups as environments where disciples are making disciples
  3. 1:1 Discipleship
• Support and coach the volunteer directors of 1:1 Discipleship
• Increase the visibility of 1:1 Discipleship
• Develop and maintain an effective and efficient system for connecting Disciplers and those being discipled by staying current on their progress 

4. Men’s Ministry

• Support, coach, and equip the volunteer leaders of the various Men’s Ministry endeavors
• Oversee and approve the selection of Men’s Ministry study material
• Teach at Men’s Ministry functions when needed

5. Bible Studies/Classes

• Oversee the development and implementation of various Bible Studies and Classes, such as Christianity Explored and Midweek
• Equip volunteer leaders and teachers with needed coaching and resources
• Teach Bible studies and classes as needed
• Ensure the material taught aligns with Wooddale’s statement of faith, values, and mission

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree required
• An advanced degree in theology, ministry or similar is desired 

• Proven ability to build and grow a vibrant ministry

• Organized, loves Jesus, and has a heart to reach others for Christ 
• Prior successful experience developing and leading Group Life endeavors
• Systems-thinker for developing comprehensive and holistic processes related to Group Life
• Proven ability to recruit, attract, develop, train, and sustain volunteers and volunteer structures
• Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities; ability to speak confidently and clearly in front of large gatherings
• Highly relational with the ability to lead volunteers through change and engage them in a vision for Group Life at Wooddale
• Understands multi-generational gatherings; ability to connect with multiple generations
• Subscribe to and affirm the Statement of Faith and Covenant of Wooddale Church
• Be a regular participant in public worship at Wooddale Church
• Become or remain a member in good standing of Wooddale Church.

RELATIONSHIPS

• Reports to Executive Pastor of Discipleship
• Relates to Wooddale pastors and leaders on all campuses
• Supervise lay leaders involved in Group Life Ministries 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job operates in an office setting and will include using standard office equipment

EXPECTED WORK HOURS & TRAVEL

• A typical schedule includes weekday hours as well as consistent weekend responsibilities
• Evening, weekend, and extended hours as holidays and other events require
• Requires the ability to commute to and work from other campuses occasionally
