Qualifications
  • Enrolled in an accredited school psychology graduate program and working towards certification.
  • Previous experience and training related to the administration, scoring, and interpretation of commonly used cognitive, achievement, and behavioral assessments
  • Knowledge of characteristics and the influence of individual differences, such as physical and psychological disabilities, learning differences, and cultural and socio-economic backgrounds as they pertain to their potential on student’s educational progress
  • Knowledge of academic and behavioral interventions
  • Well-developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to navigate common technology tools within the school setting
  • Ability to adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines and timelines as they relate to special education evaluations and services.
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to education and psychology
  • Ability to work according to the principles of professional ethics and standards of practice as outlined by the National Association of School Psychologists
  • Criminal, Child Abuse, and FBI Clearances
JOB ROLEA School Psychologist Intern works under the supervision of the district school psychologists and special education administrators to assist school staff in the identification and programming of exceptional students and assisting school staff with the design and implementation of intervention support for the successful integration into general education classes.
Job Responsibilities
  • Participating in comprehensive, psycho-educational evaluations related to the initial or ongoing need for special education services or accommodations within the school setting, including cognitive, academic, and behavioral assessments, which may include the following:
    • Administering and scoring standardized assessments
    • Interpreting results of assessments within written reports, as well as orally communicating assessment results to team members
    • Completing structured observations, including functional behavior assessments
    • Participating in feedback and data teaming meetings
  • Providing consultation services to teachers, parents, and educational team members related to academic and behavioral concerns
  • Facilitating individual and group counseling and social skills activities
  • Assisting with professional development for parent and school staff related to educational issues
  • Providing crisis support and grief counseling supports to school age students, and engagement with pre- and postvention activities following a crisis
  • Participating in regularly scheduling team meetings related to individual or groups of students or systems-level needs, including MTSS, SAP, and department meetings
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of ethics and an ethical approach to his/her profession.
  • Demonstrates competence, efficiency and independence in executing/completing duties assigned by Director of Special Education or the Superintendent.
  • Works effectively with Special Education staff to ensure effective use of planning/work time to maximize office's organization and productivity.
  • Continues to broaden skill set by attending professional development training, workshops, continuing education, and on-going review of evaluation instruments, journal updates and "best practices: nationally and throughout the Commonwealth.
  • Adheres to all Federal, State, and local Special Education guidelines relative to timeline compliances.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTTerms of internship will be dependent on final agreement, but is generally expected to follow the 192 day teacher work year, no less than 1200 hours
STIPENDWHSD has been approved through PHEAA and PaTTAN for stipends in the amount of $25,000 for in-state applicants, and $20,000 for out of state applicants. WHSD’s ability to provide an internship stipend is contingent of final approval of intern through PHEAA/PaTTAN.
