About the Role:

The Head of Security & Emergency Management (S&EM) leads specialist security and emergency management teams and resources in protecting, connecting, and enabling company activities throughout the International Region.  This role requires periodic international and domestic travel. The role is based in Houston, TX, but we are open to domestic relocation for the right candidate.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Leads the S&EM team in the International Region (Americas and Africa) in the identification and management of security threats, and provision of specialist support to the prevention, preparedness, response and recovery from crisis and emergency events.
  • Leads an agile S&EM service delivery model across the region that meets current business needs; able to pivot and concurrently support growth projects and opportunities.
  • Builds organizational resilience by leading scalable, ‘all-hazards’ focused crisis and emergency management capabilities.
  • Ensures common S&EM systems, standards, capabilities, and technologies are embedded to strengthen organizational resilience to local and global hazards across the region.
  • Ensures S&EM arrangements, capabilities and specialist advice remain contemporary, fit-for-purpose and continue to assist the business to deliver and protect value within the Region.
  • Leads the development and maintenance of internal and external capability to effectively respond to crisis and emergency events.
  • Ensures specialist support provided enables the business to minimize risk to people and mitigate business disruption.
  • Ensures personnel take a ‘values based’ - ‘value focused’, no fuss approach to service delivery.
  • Leads a supportive ‘One Team approach’, leveraging trusted networks to ensure S&EM support to the business is relevant, timely and sustainable.
  • Manages S&EM resources throughout the region, ensuring business need and/or risk assessment determines requirement for deployment of resources.
  • Creates an inclusive and culturally safe work environment.
  • Ensures ‘risk based - business first’ S&EM support and resourcing across the region.
  • Manages all human resources management responsibilities for the S&EM International team, as per company processes.
  • Demonstrates a growth mindset and builds internal capability with the S&EM International team.
  • Manages S&EM budget and financial resources for the International Region.
  • Provides reporting and information for the Woodside Board, Sustainability Committee, Executive Committee, related to S&EM threats and activities.
  • Ensures a high standard of internal S&EM and contracted service provider capability and support is provided across the region.
  • Ensures appropriate assurance of business security & emergency management requirements throughout the Region.
Skills & Experience:
  • 15 years of experience operating / leading in a security or emergency management field in the private or public sector.

  • Recognised subject matter expertise in both corporate security and crisis and emergency management disciplines.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach, guide and influence senior leaders and executives in security and crisis management preparedness and response.

  • Demonstrated experience managing risk and safeguarding personnel and business interests in complex, high-risk, international environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and deliver a high-performance, values based, value-focussed culture.

  • Ability to communicate and influence the organisation at strategic level (Board & Executive).

  • Experience managing risk-proportionate executive protection and risk management arrangements for senior company personnel.

  • Post Graduate degree/qualifications in Security, Crisis Management, Organisational Resilience or Leadership/Management related disciplines.

  • Post graduate qualifications in Leadership and/or Business Management.

  • Incident Management accreditation, ie ICS, AIIMS or Oil Spill response (IMO3 or equivalent).
