About Woodstock Day School
Founded in 1973, Woodstock Day School (WDS) is a progressive, independent school set on a 40-acre campus in New York’s Hudson Valley. Located midway between the towns of Woodstock and Saugerties and roughly two hours north of Manhattan, WDS is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools and offers a unique and inclusive educational experience to approximately 200 students from Nursery School through Grade 12.
WDS believes that there is no such thing as an “average” student, and our combination of purposefully small class sizes, intensely committed faculty, and a culture of individual respect empowers our students to aim high, shape and achieve their personal goals, and prepares them to make a positive difference in a complex world. Added to the program in 2003, our middle and upper schools offer outstanding programs for grades 6-12, helping students discover their passions, achieve academic and personal excellence and demonstrate a commitment to service. WDS actively seeks to build a diverse community of educators, staff, and families.

We honor every student and their unique dispositions, styles, and unique set of attributes as learners. There is no uniform or lockstep model. We are a school that breeds civility, goodness, a profound regard for humanity, and the dignity of every individual. Al...igned with becoming educated is cultivating civility, generosity, caring, and compassion. Collaboration is the thread that runs through the fabric of the community. From adults to students to parents, we are an interdependent community; the ecology of relationships and effectiveness is based on a learned capacity to share, to delegate, to cooperate, and to work together. We learn to do by doing. Knowledge takes root when its planted in experience. We believe children are natural-born learners. We believe that an educators greatest challenge isnt to teach children, but rather to create an environment that keeps their inherent curiosity intact. The classroom serves as an ideal place for children to explore, experiment, fail, learn and grow, both as individuals and as a group. In an atmosphere of intellectual discipline and creativity, we believe that meaningful learning requires diligence, dedication, perseverance, and resilience in the face of challenges. This growth mindset is both a skill and disposition which can be taught and reinforced. We educate integrated human beings. As such, the holistic perspective undergirds a learning environment that balances the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive lives of all students.
