The RoleWithin Australian Supermarkets, the GM Finance & Supermarkets Operations leads a geographically dispersed team of over 30 Team Members. The position reports to the Finance Director - AFG, is a member of the Food Finance Leadership Team, and also holds a pivotal role on the Stores Executive Team. This dedicated team plays a pivotal role in driving positive operational outcomes for our stores. Their primary responsibilities encompass strategic decision support, a lead role in the delivery of the Stores productivity aspiration, reporting and analysis, budgeting, and forecasting. These crucial activities provide valuable insights and guidance to the Supermarkets ELT, enabling them to make informed business decisions.
Responsibilities Will Include But Not Be Limited To
  • Directly leading and supporting the Australian Supermarkets finance team in a way that empowers and influences.
  • Deliver timely and precise financial insights, innovative solutions, and strategic counsel to boost financial performance.
  • Ensure accountability for the Annual Operating Plan in Operations, including Store budgets and scorecards.
  • Play a lead role for finance across productivity, stock loss and general cost and capital management - whilst maintaining a focus on customer and team outcomes.
  • Enhance operational financial efficiency and best practices by reviewing, revising, and optimising processes, procedures, and systems.
  • Evaluation of capital investments, considering both financial and non-financial implications and the ongoing monitoring and assessment of realised benefits against established business cases.
  • Collaborating with the Supermarkets strategy and people enablement teams to drive business and team performance.
  • Contributing to the building and delivery of the strategic focus of the Supermarkets business.
  • Galvanising the team to ensure commercial delivery of the financial targets set.
  • Monitoring and presenting results and outlook at monthly internal Business Performance Meetings and forecast meetings.
  • Facilitating the building of the Supermarkets budget targets including the strategic initiatives and overseeing the detailed budget build, ensuring it matches the top down ambition.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of the Supermarkets sales and profit results.
  • Actively working to reduce reporting or governance risks and driving process improvement to reduce manual workload and risks.
About You
  • CA or CPA qualified
  • An inspirational leader of leaders with a minimum of 10 years experience in Senior Finance Partnering roles
  • Commercial finance experience at an executive level with retail and board exposure
  • Highly influential with the ability to develop productive and robust internal partnerships at the highest levels across a complex matrixed organisation
  • Operationally driven, with a proven track record of implementing and delivering effective business strategies in a fast paced, commercial context.
  • Able to anticipate and respond to changes in an effective way
  • Personal qualities that align with our purpose, values and ways of working.
