SUBJECT: COORDINATOR - ACADEMIC CENTER FOR TRANSITION REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION PURPOSE: The Academic Center for Transition is a public day school serving students in grades K-6. ACT is centered upon academic growth for all students. The school provides a healthy, positive, therapeutic, and supportive teaching and learning environment. ACT's success is built on establishing strong relationships with students and caregivers.
The coordinator's role is to lead academic and social emotional learning of students, conduct supervision and evaluation of staff, and oversee operations of a safe learning environment.ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE: 1. Responsible for overseeing a program of instruction and services that supports the socio-emotional and the cognitive development of students.2. Responsible for the maintenance of an atmosphere conducive to health and safety.3. Responsible for designing an appropriate educational program for students that is aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.4.
Responsible for working with staff in the following areas: a. Designing of professional development;b. Effective planning and delivery of curriculum;c. Supervision of the physical plant;d.
Ordering supplies and materials for program operation.5. Responsible for scheduling all students and staff so that the delivery of quality education is achieved through leadership and effective management.6. Responsible for working collaboratively with community agencies and business partners to expand educational opportunities for students.7. Responsible for working cooperatively with secondary schools to transition students.8.
In concert with the Human Resource Office, responsible for developing and executing a system of personnel selection, assignments, supervision, support and evaluation which encourage professional growth in staff performance.9. Performance of other job-related duties as required.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. MA DESE license as a Principal/Assistant Principal Pre K-8 with the SEI endorsement.2.
Working knowledge of educational organizations, administration/supervision and curriculum development.3. Demonstrated experience working with at-risk students in an administrative and leadership capacity.4. Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written forms with parents, students, teachers, administrators, and community representatives5. Knowledgeable of budget preparation and line-item expenditure process.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1.
Experience in urban school administration, including collaborating with social service agencies.2. Experience in multicultural education, including curriculum and staff development.3. Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese or an African Language. 4.
Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs.5. Demonstrated experience with second language acquisitionWORK YEAR: Pupil-session days (180), plus 21 daysSALARY: SALARY: In accordance with the EAW contract Administrative Group IV-B (unit B position)
