Goddard Scholars Academy at Sullivan Middle School - Science TeacherGoddard Scholars Academy (GSA) is an innovation school, housed within Sullivan Middle School. GSA offers a city-wide magnet program for 150 highly motivated gifted and talented middle school students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Teachers prepare students for the rigors of high school and to compete on the national level for college readiness and 21st Century careers through challenging academic course work, technology, and reading and writing across the curriculum. GSA offers many enrichment opportunities, performance band, and encourages caregiver and community involvement.

Teach 4 classes of Science to grades 6 and 8 as well as an Enrichment class.Required Qualifications: 1.Licensure in Middle School Math and Science2.SEI endorsement3.Demonstrated mastery of content area knowledge4.Undergraduate or graduate course work in mathematics and science5.Demonstrated ability to provide rigorous expectations for students6.Willingness to participate in targeted professional development in content area and technology7.Demonstrated ability in technology skills for instruction and extension activities8.Familiarity with the state Frameworks for Science, Engineering and Technology and Mathematics9.Demonstrated understanding of using and analyzing data to drive instruction10.Demonstrated ability to use formative and summative assessments11.Ability to work collaboratively with the teaching team of the GSA12.Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the mission and vision of the Goddard Scholars Academy and Sullivan Middle School13.Willingness to take on leadership roles at the school, such as leading parent involvement or communication initiatives, recruiting the incoming class, being a member of the Instructional Leadership Team for the larger school14.Willingness to participate in after school and evening events for students and parents15.Participation in Academy meetingsPreferred Qualifications: 1.Masters Degree in Education2.Course work in gifted and talented education3.Experience teaching advanced students (AP, honors or higher course levels)4.Ability to adapt to schedule changes5.Interest in participating in extra-curricular activities with students6.Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs7.Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese or an African Language. Staffing ProcessGSA has autonomy for staffing the innovation school. Staff vacancies are filled by a Hiring Committee, which will be comprised of: 1 current administrator3 veteran faculty (at least 3 years as a Goddard Scholars teacher)1 parent with a student currently enrolled in the Goddard Scholars Academy Application ProcessApplications of teachers interested in a position in this school will be forwarded from Central Administration to the Hiring Committee for consideration.
The Hiring Committee will interview candidates and review the applicants qualifications, prior performance or recommendations, and willingness to support the vision and mission of the Goddard Scholars Academy.Applicants will be asked to teach a sample lesson, which will be observed as part of the selection criteria. An applicants overall teaching experience will be a factor in the selection process.
