JOB SUMMARY

The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution and completion of Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) projects. This role reports directly to the VP of dCarbon Ventures (dCV) and requires:

  • Both leadership skill and technical competency or experience across a broad range of technical disciplines.
  • Ability to understand and integrate work done by specialists in subsurface, wells, land, surface facilities engineering, stakeholder relations, construction, operations, health, safety, environment, regulatory and commercial partner interfaces.
  • Strong integration and communication skills allowing them to deliver results through distributed team and without direct authority over many of the key resources.
  • Strong contractor management skills and good knowledge of contract types and effective strategies used in projects involving the design and construction of industrial facilities.
  • The ability to understand complex problems and frame them to ensure efficient use of resources and deliver project results. CCUS is an emerging industry with evolving regulation and stakeholder perspectives.
  • Demonstrable safety leadership, integrity, accountability and transparency while upholding BKV’s standards, values and culture.
  • Works to achieve operational targets under general supervision. Requires the ability to influence others by explaining facts, policies and practices. Problems faced may be difficult but generally not complex. Demonstrates integrity, accountability and transparency; upholds BKV standards, values and culture.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Typical job responsibilities of the PROJECT MANAGER include:

  • Lead safe, cost effective and timely delivery of CCUS capital projects.
  • Ensure project team follows established dCV project management processes.
  • Develop implement and help manage robust and fit-for-purpose processes for identifying, screening, appraising, selecting, designing and executing economic and risk mitigated CCUS projects.
  • Establish robust, effective and fit-for-purpose project management processes.
  • Document and apply lessons learned to enable continuous process improvement.
  • Ensure scope, schedule and cost controls are implemented at each project phase in a fit-for-purpose manner.
  • Ensure the project economic model is highly reliable and accurate, a risk-weighted economic approach is applied and inputs are regularly validated.
  • Collaborate across functions such as Geology, Land, Business Development and expert consultants throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and apply the project playbook and best practices tool kit.
  • Assist in managing vendor, supplier and service providers. Establish sound working relationships and ensure high quality delivery.
  • Other duties as required.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Safety. Understand safe design principles, process safety concepts and exhibit personal safety leadership.
  • Leadership. Ability to integrate, align and motivate a team of people from across BKV to a common project mission.
  • Management. Communication skills, setting of priorities, delegation, performance management of both internal and external resources.
  • Comfort with pace and with managing multiple competing priorities with confidence and professionalism.
  • Results orientation. Ability to develop and then deliver a complex set of competing objectives.Sets high standards and leads the team to deliver results.
  • Comfortable with complexity and evolving situations.CCUS is new, regulation and policy are immature and emitters are not equity partners. The PM must be capable of managing multiple variables and developing plans with multiple courses of action.
  • Inclusion. An ability to align internal stakeholders on project objectives and choices which maximize value to BKV.
  • Project Capital Value Processes. Strong knowledge of the stages of project development from concept definition to design and planning processes to EPC work.Knowledge of use of stage gates, budgets and FID decision making processes
  • Decisiveness. Ability to incorporate many factors in value-based project choices and decisions.
  • Understand the value of interfacing and engaging Operations in project design and delivery.
  • Basic to moderate subsurface and wells knowledge
  • Understanding of Engineering design processes from concept development through to detailed engineering.
  • Contract development, Contractor management and project contract strategies.
  • Planning scheduling and project performance management techniques.
  • Construction planning and execution.
  • Project completions and commissioning processes
  • Startup and project closeout processes.
  • Understanding of natural gas industry standards, market trends, emerging issues and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working at a public company in multiple areas of the project management function. This might include initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, risk management, stakeholder management and/or procurement.
  • Experience identifying, assessing and addressing key risks; understand the risk/reward picture.
  • Financial management skills and experience utilizing economic models to make informed project decisions. Experience assessing the costs, benefits and risks associated with a project to determine its financial feasibility and potential return on investment (ROI).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and job-related applications. Uses insights from digital tools to improve performance.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Advanced interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, organization and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated cognitive and problem-solving skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and relevant business experience.
  • Minimum fifteen years oil and gas or related industry experience.
  • Leadership experience and capability.
  • Strong individual contributor experience in an operating company, preferably oil and gas.
  • Exposure to carbon injections or CCUS preferred.
