Salary: $90,000-$125,000

Job Purpose: 

The Senior Finance Director is responsible for the strategic direction, management, and protection of WHI’s financial assets and its reputation as a responsible steward of its resources. The Senior Finance Director’s responsibility for the oversight of financial operations includes, but is not limited to:

  • overseeing and monitoring complete, accurate and timely reports of all financial activities.
  • leading the organization’s financial planning, analysis, reporting and budgeting processes.
  • ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP), timely compliance with regulatory requirements (federal, state and local), the timely closure of unqualified annual audits.
  • developing effective financial infrastructure, including policies and procedures for financial processes and reporting; and the performance and training of finance and accounting staff.

The Senior Finance Director will work very closely and collaboratively with the CEO and the Senior Management team on budget, funding, grant management and expense matters, projecting a sense of customer service as a consistently demonstrated characteristic of the Finance Department. In addition, the Senior Finance Director will be expected to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with members of the Board of Directors, especially the Finance and Auditing Committee.

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Advance degree in accounting.
  • CPA license required.
  • Minimum 10 years of finance/accounting experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Appropriate and related experience as a financial executive, preferably including not-for-profit organizations.
  • Energetic, forward-thinking, and creative with high ethical and professional standards.
  • Sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and a strong operational focus.
  • Experience with training, willing to share information, and serve as a mentor.
  • Experience successfully negotiating contracts and agreements.
  • Experience responding effectively to sensitive, confidential, and complex issues and concerns.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, WHI’s Board of Directors, global staff, and outside partners and vendors.
  • Outstanding analytical, organizational, and time management skills. 
  • Proven ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, complex, decentralized, and geographically diverse organizational structure. 
  • Proficient computer skills – especially the Microsoft Suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint). 
  • Experience with Acumatica (ERP) preferred.
  • Commitment to the core values, foundational principles, and mission of WHI.
  • Acknowledge and demonstrate belief in the Apostle’s Creed.

Working Environment / Conditions: 

Standard office environment. Domestic and some international travel may be required.
