WVU Medicine is Hiring a Director of Nursing - Hospice Near Clarksburg, WV

WVU Medicine Home Health/Hospice is looking to hire a Director of Nursing for our Clarksburg Hospice location.

Plan, direct, supervises and monitors the activities of the department to achieve optimum patient care by meeting established goals and objectives. Coordinates these activities with the Medical Staff, Administration, other nursing units, families, ancillary services and community agencies to enhance total patient care. May act in the Administrator capacity in absence of the VP/Administrator of WVUHS Home Care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS IF HIRED AFTER TO 06/01/2020:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a registered professional nurse OR current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

2. Must possess valid WV or neighboring state driver’s license and must maintain WV or neighboring state minimum auto insurance

EXPERIENCE:

1. Five (5) years of progressive Registered Nurse experience required; Four (4) years Hospice experience.

2. Two (2) years of supervisory experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a School of Nursing.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Two (2) years of previous experience in a hospital/home care/hospice leadership role (such as charge nurse,

nurse manager, or documentable consistent demonstration of strong leadership skills while functioning as a staff nurse).

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Identifies and details work systems by interviewing customers and identifying prioritizing and having intimate (flowchart) knowledge of systems, outcomes, and monitors. Systems, outcomes, monitors are detailed. Training manuals up to date and complete. Systems are defined, taught, monitored, audited and deficiencies corrected.

2. Establishes valued standards (quality and cost) and routinely monitors those standards demonstrating incremental measurable improvement identified systems. Standards are measured. Hospice public information is at or above national standards at all times (hospice compare).

3. Assures that position specific competency based skill evaluations are met within the unit specific orientation period. Competency base education (CBE) complete after orientation.

4. Provides individualized education plan (IEP) sessions for those Employees who fall below competency level for their job description. Individualized education plan (IEP) current, used up to date.

5. Requires attendance at mandatory programs with follow-up and discipline for Employees who don’t attend. Attendance report.

6. Assures Employees understand and implement detailed departmental work systems. Employees know systems – observational/verbal feedback

7. Produces individualized education plan (IEP) sessions for those Employees who fall below competency level for their job description. Individualized education plan (IEP) current, used up to date. Attains and maintains quality standards of department and CMS and TJC.

8. Completes payroll/personnel/administrative responsibilities within set time frames. On time with administrative details/no late evaluations/individualized education plan (IEP).

9. Skillful in negotiating and formulating agreements concerning billing rates and patient care for Hospice services.

10. Maintains an excellent rapport with Employees, gains, cooperation of staff while working toward institutional and departmental goals.

11. Maintains a professional working relationship with all departmental Employees, always responds to employee concerns in a professional and timely manner, and maintains appropriate interdepartmental communication. HR/Vice President (VP) interviews of Employees/Annual Survey.

12. Maintains structured and frequent spontaneous reward, recognition program.

13. Identifies future needs and problem areas; develops workable solutions; follows through on solutions.

14. Plans meeting with agenda for purpose of decision making and reporting. Establishes objectives for next meeting. Conducts meeting within established time constraints.

15. Maintains a constructive, positive environment among the management team and Employees and shows empathy. Addresses areas of conflict directly and works towards resolution. Employee engagement is tier 2 or greater with well-defined and achievable action plan that is monitored and successful.

16. Always takes immediate action upon the discovery of a serious discrepancy situation; documents action and rationale for decision.

17. Delegates proper task to appropriate person with accountability. Creates an atmosphere and conditions which are conducive to and foster motivation of Employees to work at optimal efficiency, encourages staff to regularly establish goals and objectives.

18. Actively listens to Employees and customers. Implements structured communication plan so that each Associate knows big picture, successes, as well as departmental issues. Customer satisfaction is at or above established parameters 95% of the time.

19. Provides care based on physical, psychosocial, communication, safety, and education level and related criteria for the infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric patient per the established age-specific education/standard.

20. Maintains working knowledge of common computer programs.

21. Constructs and completes projects on time and within budget with work plans and issue tracking.

1. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping are necessary body movements utilized in performing duties throughout the work shift.

2. Must be able to lift, move and position patients of all weights, with varying amounts of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis.

3. Hearing within normal range is required (i.e. to assess breath sounds, bowel sounds, apical pulse, monitors, etc).

4. Visual acuity must be within normal range.

5. Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Works with medical staff, hospital administration, department heads, ancillary departments, community agencies, and home care/hospice staff to coordinate nursing management of patient care.

2. Foresees potential problem situations regarding follow up or specific attention.

3. Accountable for the following activities of all working staff on a 24 hour basis.

Assesses the problems and needs of the patient population. Plans for the delivery of individualized, holistic patient care. Supervises the implementation of patient care. Evaluates the effectiveness of care delivered. Makes appropriate changes in delivery of patient care based on the evaluation. Assures competency of clinical skills of employees.

4. Plans, implements, and evaluates staffing patterns in accordance with established staffing patterns, patient acuity, assurance of continuity of care and overall budgetary constraints.

5. Monitors fiscal plan, operating within its parameters.

6. Promotes open communication within the unit, assessing staff understanding and comprehension and facilitation change as directed by hospital departmental policy and procedure.

7. Must possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills

8. Demonstrates knowledge of all job functions for which you are administratively responsible.

Pay: $89,065.00 - $133,577.00 per year
