Wychmere Beach Club is seeking to hire a Director of Engineering. The Director of Engineering is responsible for the overall management of the Engineering Department. In doing so, they direct and supervise the Engineering staff, liaise with outside vendors and directly liaises with the property's wastewater treatment plant operator. They are responsible for all day-to-day operations of the Engineering department and overseeing the successful completion of maintenance projects and daily assigned tasks. They are responsible for ensuring proper operations, service and repair of all equipment on property while supporting the Company’s goals of member/ guest satisfaction, cost control, safety and profitability.
RESPONSIBILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS:
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the hiring, training, supervision, scheduling, counseling, and evaluation of performance and planning the activities of Engineering staff including making spot checks on a daily basis
- Exemplify a solid work ethic and promote a team environment
- Effectively collaborate and communicate with all departments to ensure a positive experience for members, guests and employees
- Responsible to properly sign off on all invoices, operating expenses as well as capital expenditures
- Responsible for developing capital planning, both short term along with forecasting long term 5/10 year needs
- Ensure all areas of the Club and property are inspected on a regular basis for maintenance, safety and operational integrity
- Coordinating the general maintenance and repairs in the guest rooms and suites, venue spaces, restaurants, tennis, beach pool, public areas as well as employee housing
- Perform regularly scheduled safety inspections, including, but not limited to, fire safety devices, elevator, emergency evacuation policies of the property to maintain compliance with all state and town codes and insurance guidelines
- Responsible for executing walk through lists and updating the appropriate departmental managers weekly on progress
- Assist with scheduling Spring pre-opening facility inspections with town and various third party vendors
- Coordinate all closing / winterization needs for the property
- Coordinate Pre-Opening and Closing Checklist for the property’s annual needs; encompassing tasks, target dates, etc.
- Coordinate and oversee a Preventative Maintenance Program
- Ensure proper par stock levels for general supplies throughout season
- Ability to handle the purchasing of equipment replacement parts and repairs. This includes contacting vendors for best prices, writing purchase orders, receiving goods and completing projects
- Knowledge of the Waste Water Treatment Facility, HVAC systems, Boiler Rooms, Elevators, Pool Filtration, etc. and their respective general operation and requirements
- Knowledge of the Building & Repairs annual maintenance budget along with assisting in preparing future year’s budget together with the General Manager and Assistant Controller
- Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, walking and standing for an extended period
- Ability to stand, walk and continuously perform essential job functions for an extended period
- Ability to remain calm in emergency situations and to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse concern, collect accurate information, and solve guest
- Act as a liaison between Company and vendors, along with having excellent vendor management skills
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
- The knowledge of theories, principles and concepts, typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a closely related field, along with five to seven years’ relevant experience in supervisory management.
- Should have some experience and working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical and carpentry concepts
- Should be able to service, troubleshoot, and repair equipment without causing extended equipment downtime
- Should have knowledge of blue prints, wiring diagrams and HVAC systems
- Pool and pool systems operations experience is desirable
- Proven leadership and collaboration skills as a department head or manager
- Require availability to work flexible hours and weekends
- Exceptional written & verbal communication skills
- Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Proficient in computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite
