Job Description
The Williams College of Business at Xavier University is seeking a talented candidate for the position of Academic Advisor with a specific focus on first-year and at-risk undergraduate business students. The successful candidate will serve as a professional advisor under the student success model and collaborate with faculty, success coaches, career development, financial aid, and disability access/resources to help business students reach their academic and career goals. This position will work alongside the Assistant Director for Advising & Programs and report to the Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Programs, Williams College of Business.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES - Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Provide individualized academic advising to current and prospective undergraduate business students with specific emphasis on first-year and at-risk student populations.
• Assist the Assistant Dean and WCB Undergraduate Office with registration, graduation checkouts, add/drop, change of major/minor, waitlist, waiver-sub, and override processes.
• Develop workshops/training for first-year students prior to fall and spring advising and registration. Help students better understand program requirements, curriculum, co-curricular, and degree progression policies. Educate students on how to utilize online tools such as DegreeWorks, Banner Self-Service, etc.
• Identify and communicate with at-risk students based on mid-term and end-of-semester grades. Develop outreach strategies and referrals and monitor their progress.
• Counsel first year and at-risk students on class selection, academic majors/minors, study skills, time management, course sequencing, and more.
• Connect students to campus resources that support and aid retention, progression, and academic success (such as Office of Student Success, Writing Center, Math Lab, Health & Counseling, Career Development, etc.).
• Encourage students to engage in experiential learning that enhances their academic and career goals. Guide students on how activities such as internships, study abroad, etc. can fit into their four-year plan.
• Work directly with university departments (Registrar's Office, Bursar, Student Success Center, Accessibility and Disability Services, Financial Aid, Mentoring Program, Health & Wellness/McGrath, TRIO, Athletics, etc.) and Deans to assist students with day-to-day issues related to registration, degree completion, or academic success.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as higher education, student development, counseling, business, etc.
• Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
• 1 to 3 years of relevant work experiencework in higher education preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality.
• Aptitude to learn new software and systems.

This is an hourly pay position working 37.5 hours per week. The hourly rate is $23 - $24 per hour plus health insurance, wellness, retirement, and tuition benefits.
