Reporting to the Sr. Director of Operations, the Terminal Manager is an exempt position whose functions are to oversee and regulate the day-to-day operations at the Terminal; establish and maintain the necessary operational systems and procedures and maintain limitations and controls, to ensure the most effective and profitable utilization of facilities, equipment and manpower under his/her control and direction; and, ensure compliance with company and D.O.T. policies and procedures and ensure Terminal profitability.
In accordance with current Operating Standards, “Company Policies and Procedures” and in the best interests of the Company; its customers; employees and the public, the Terminal Manager’s responsibilities include:
Work with Recruiting and Sales departments to ensure proper driver levels based on revenue projections, new business, and projected turnover
Advise and direct dispatch operations and drivers, providing coaching and mentoring while determining engagement and satisfaction
Assist with employee recruitment, training, and performance evaluation, promotion and termination activities
Participate in orientation for new employees
Focus on driver retention, working with the Capacity Development Team on initiatives based on turnover trends
Work with the Sr. Load Coordinators and/or the Load Coordinator to monitor driver levels and resolve issues with drivers, and to ensure efficient and fair dispatching of drivers
Monitor driver pay to ensure maximum earnings, ensure pay equity through regular review, and resolve driver pay errors
Provide input on industry and local market trends on driver compensation
Review and approve time off schedules
Work with Human Resources to manage sick leaves and return to work accommodations
Identify and manage driver training and certification requirements to ensure the compliant and safe dispatch of drivers, and ensure the appropriate support is identified and provided for proper completion of the same
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
Collaborate with the Safety; provide support on review of Drive Cam events, support safety initiatives, attend safety meetings, and conduct regular ride-alongs.
Ensure the terminal is organized, clean and free of safety hazards
Stay connected with and respond to concerns of local customers
Reward and recognize drivers for behaviour that supports our culture
Plan and host driver appreciation events
Work with HR regarding progressive discipline and termination of drivers, when required
Respond to, resolve and/or create solutions for driver complaints or concerns
Coach and mentor dispatch operations and drivers with an emphasis on open communication
Assign responsibilities to employees, enforcing compliance policies and communicating with customers to provide updates and resolve issues
Determine staffing needs at the terminal and work with the Capacity Development team in the hiring process
Adheres to the companies Safety, Health, and Environmental and Security policies

Assist in budget preparation and expense management
Able to develop and implement business plan for profitability

Sound knowledge of transportation industry including DOT and FMSCA regulations; experience in pneumatic bulk commodities is desirable (cement hauling industry a plus)
Experience with McLeod Software and Samsara systems preferred
Intermediate level computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Accountable for developing an environment
A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of management/operations experience in the transportation business preferred
High School Diploma or GED required
Bachelor's Degree preferred
