To support our continued growth, we are seeking a Controller in our office in Gaithersburg, MD. This is a tremendous opportunity for the right person to join one of the fastest-growing businesses in the Washington, DC, area.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the overall financial management, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 Financial Management:

  • Oversee all financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Conduct regular ledger maintenance and reconciliation of accounts.
  • Schedule expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions when necessary.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting, ensuring adequate cash flow to meet the organization's needs.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP or other relevant standards.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, including preparation, consolidation, and analysis of budgets.
  • Monitor and analyze budget performance, providing insights and recommendations for improvements.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal control systems to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including tax filings and audits.

Audit and Tax:

  • Coordinate and oversee the annual external audit and tax preparation processes, including preparation of audit and tax materials and responses to auditor inquiries.
  • Manage and ensure compliance with tax requirements and filings.

Leadership and Management:

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support overall business objectives and provide financial insights for decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • Professional accountancy qualification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) Is highly preferred
  • 10 or more years of experience, including 5 years of management experience
  • Experience in the construction industry is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
