Job Description: Steel Fabricator

Pay: $24-$28/HR

SUMMARY

Seeking a Steel Fabricator in the shop to:

- Cut metal parts

- Fit and/or assemble metal parts into various structures

- Fabricate parts according to technical blueprints

- Use measuring tools effectively and check work

- Layout, fabricate, join, and/or repair equipment, fixtures, and structures using various welding techniques

- Follow all safety protocols while performing duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Ability to read and interpret drawings

- Operate fabricating machines such as rolls, shears, cutting torch, flame cutters, mag drill, saws, and drill presses

- Fabricate steel and other metal parts according to blueprints

- Set up jigs and weld parts in place

- Lay out cutting lines

- Check if a workpiece meets specifications using a square, ruler, and measuring tape

- Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers

- Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding

- Test and inspect welded surfaces for flaws

- Fit fabricated steel items

- Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify the Field Superintendent; assist with maintaining and repairing all machinery

- Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications

- Maintain tools and equipment

- Follow safety protocols, including wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective hood, and safety shoes

- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workplace

JOB SKILL REQUIREMENTS

- Blueprint comprehension required

- Ability to read a tape measure required

- Skills in the fabrication, joining, and repair of a variety of metal objects, equipment, fixtures, and structures

- Basic math and reading required

- Attention to detail and mental concentration necessary for accurately performing tasks

- Ability to work independently and operate under pressure in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines

- Willingness to learn company processes and technology

- Willing and able to take directions

- Other duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

- High school diploma or GED certificate or successful completion of basic reading and math skills assessment

- Completion of a technical trade program or training program a plus

- 2 years of fitting and welding experience required

- Valid driver’s license preferred

- Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check

- Eligible to work and live in the United States

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

- Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 80% of the time

- Occasionally must be able to distinguish if equipment is on fire

- Required to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment or materials on the job

- Required to be able to climb ladders

- Primarily a shop environment with potential for physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, and noise

- This position requires protective equipment that conforms to OSHA regulations

- Must be able to work an extended schedule as required by job demands
