About the position:
Community Habilitation Specialists work one-to-one with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to help them pursue their life’s dreams by offering skills training and supports that allow a person to explore, experience, and enjoy life.
How you’ll perform the role:
Community Habilitation is an in-home and community-based service. As a Community Habilitation staff member, you will provide one-on-one support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their homes and in the community. You play an integral role in teaching various life skills while providing recreational opportunities to promote community integration. The goal of this program is to empower the people we support to obtain greater independence, and to have fun along the way!
Specifically, you would be...
· Promoting independence across settings in daily activities, such as work, learning, household maintenance, and leisure.
· Facilitating integration in the community's experiences and activities each day.
· Establishing a secure, positive environment that nurtures people's needs and self-expression.
· Delivering individualized skills training and care for people who receive supports in compliance with healthcare professionals’ instructions and other specific guidelines.
· Advancing people’s decision-making, productivity, and participation in a range of activities.
· Maintaining knowledge of people’s safety and health requirements.
· Complying with YAI’s policies and procedures as well as the specific rules of the person's home.
*Please note that the Community Habilitation Specialist position starts out part-time with potential to build a full-time schedule. There are no overnight shifts for this program.
Cases are available in uptown Manhattan and the Bronx.
Typical start times: 3/4pm
Typical end times: 7/8pm
Flexibility to work 16-40 hours per week!
