Yale School of Medicine is Hiring a Condition assessment Near New Haven, CT

Position Focus :

Reporting to the Director of Campus Stewardship, this role manages and oversees the capital renewal program and conducts comprehensive facilities condition assessments (FCAs) to ensure facilities’ long-term sustainability, functionality, and safety.

The position plays a pivotal role in developing strategic plans, prioritizing capital renewal projects, and optimizing resource allocation to support the ongoing maintenance and improvement of our campus infrastructure.

Manages and sets capital budgets in collaboration with the Dir. of Campus Stewardship. Utilizes software for efficient project and budget tracking, generates reports to monitor project performance, and selects consultants.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive capital renewal program encompassing maintenance, repair, and replacement needs for all campuses and offsite buildings.
  • Lead the planning and coordination of capital renewal projects, focusing on building envelope upgrades, mechanical and electrical system replacements, and structural repairs, prioritizing carbon reduction goals.
  • Conduct detailed FCAs to evaluate the physical condition of buildings, grounds, and infrastructure components, including roofs, facades, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, life safety, accessibility, and environmental compliance.

Oversee consulting firms engaged in the assessment process. Manage the procurement process for selecting firms, including issuing RFPs, evaluating proposals, and negotiating contracts and scopes of work.

  • Utilize industry-standard assessment methodologies, tools, and software to collect, analyze, and prioritize facility condition data.
  • Develop and maintain a centralized database or management system to track facility condition assessment data, identify trends, and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Collaborate with teams, including Facilities Capital Program Group, Facilities Operations, Facilities Services, Grounds and Landscape, Facilities Engineers, Consultants (FCA), and the Budget Office, to develop capital renewal plans, budgets, and schedules aligned with goals and priorities.

Collaborate with Yale Community (Users Groups, Departments, Self-supports), to define project objectives, scope, and deliverables for FCAs.

  • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing findings, recommended capital renewal projects, cost estimates, and implementation timelines for review by senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress and performance of capital renewal projects, with adherence to scopes, schedules, and budgets, and address issues or challenges.
  • Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements on capital renewal and FCA to inform decision-making and program improvements.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and training to staff and stakeholders on capital renewal processes, protocols, and objectives.
  • Lead and manage working group committees to gather community and customer input into the capital renewal process, priorities, and long-term plans.
  • Develop a communication plan to disseminate capital renewal plans campus-wide, including updating information on the Facilities website.
  • Establish and maintain a formal facility condition index (FCI) or similar index to monitor program performance, execution, and success.

Essential Duties

1. Directs, monitors, and assesses needs and directs the application of resources of an administrative University office dealing with one or more major functional areas.

2. Directs and implements solutions to problems that are routine to complex in nature and that affect multiple functional areas of responsibility.

3. Plans and / or participates in planning University activities on a long-term basis to comply with University goals and objectives.

4. Establishes and implements consistent university-wide policies in multiple functional areas of responsibility. 5. Ensures that University office policies and procedures are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.

6. Develops and monitors goals and objectives for managerial and professional staff in compliance with University strategies.

7. Directs a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and nine years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Required Skill / Ability 1 :

Advanced knowledge of architectural planning, design and construction processes.

Required Skill / Ability 2 :

Advanced level of team building / leadership skills. Ability to process multiple assignments, set priorities, and to lead project teams to meet objectives.

Required Skill / Ability 3 :

Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to make effective presentations to influence change and acceptance with key stakeholders.

Strong proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and construction scheduling software.

Required Skill / Ability 4 :

Must possess strong business acumen, the ability to drive results through others, strong analytical and negotiation skills.

Required Skill / Ability 5 :

Solid technical knowledge for data collection, analysis, interpretation for executive decision making. Manage and execute capital plan based on prioritization established.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills :

Master’s degree in any architecture, project management, urban or regional planning, urban design, engineering, or related field.

Experience in Facilities Condition Assessment programs.

Preferred Licenses or Certifications :

LEED Certification
