The Khokha Lab at the Yale University School of Medicine is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated full-time postgraduate intern with an interest in animal science and/or aquaculture in a recirculating aquaculture system.
Past interns have gone on to a variety of successful career paths. Vanessa received her Master’s in Aquatic Health Sciences and is now an Associate Scientific Analyst at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Colton is employed with the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife, where he manages stocking the state’s lakes for recreational fishing. Jessica is the Vivarium Coordinator at a small college in Maine.
Responsibilities
The internship position involves all aspects of aquatic frog husbandry, including health monitoring, feeding, record keeping, water quality testing, tank and room sanitation and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions and performing repairs. A secondary focus is breeding and raising frogs, and using a computer database to track these activities.
The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in a biology-related field, with a good understanding of basic and/or water chemistry. Previous experience is not required; the intern will be trained in all aspects of the position. Interest in aquaculture and genetics is a plus. This position is contracted for one year, with the possibility of extending to a second year. There is a potential for long term employment depending on the motivation and interest of the applicant. Please note the internship will not involve lab work.

Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs. short distances.
Ability to stand or walk for majority of the day.
Ability to sit at microscope for up to 40 minutes.
Ability to work Tuesday - Saturday after training is desirable, but not required.
Education
BA in Aquaculture, Marine Biology, Animal Science or related field.
Internship is open to students who are not yet enrolled in a PhD or post-doctoral program.
Experience
Experience maintaining an aquatic system of any size.
Understand water quality parameters (temperature, conductivity, pH), the nitrogen cycle, and how these variables affect animal health.
Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Illustrator.
