YMCA of Central Kentucky is Hiring a Program Coordinator- Aquatics Near Lexington, KY

Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Program Coordinator - Aquatics is responsible for a broad base of adult and youth swim lessons, general aquatic programs, certification and trainings and aqua fitness classes. Assists with plans, organization, and program direction and supervision of staff in a wide variety of programs related to aquatics activities. Time is spent in direct leadership and/or supervision, as well as direct service, of programs areas/sites and additionally in administration of office tasks. Note: This position requires evening and weekend work. Expectations of the Program Coordinator - Aquatics is that he/she is present and available at program sites/areas during weekly and weekend programming.
KNOW HOW:
This position requires knowledge and experience of adult and youth swim lessons, general aquatic programs, certification and trainings and aqua fitness classes. This role requires strong organizational and leadership skills that lead to the successful accomplishment of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below. Some experience is required in fiscal management and financial development, community relations, staff supervision, team building, and program development. A person filling this position must demonstrate strong initiative, creativity, critical thinking, flexibility, and be able to operate and promote an environment that supports the YMCA's mission and its four core values.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assists leadership to establish strong adult and youth swim lessons, general aquatic programs, certification and trainings and aqua fitness classes.
  • Executes the strategic priorities and policies of the YMCA association and of the YMCA branch.
  • Assists with maintenance and upkeep of program areas, facilities and equipment in conjunction with the facilities director.
  • Assists with development and management of all related program schedules for participants and members. Ensures communication to staff and participants of these schedules.
  • Directs staff and volunteers to set up equipment for aquatic programming; monitors and purchases necessary aquatic programming equipment within budget parameters (under guidance of Program Director).
  • Provides "hands-on" leadership to adult and youth swim lessons, general aquatic programs, certification and trainings and aqua fitness classes.
  • Creates swim lesson rosters and other program/class attendance rosters as needed.
  • Assists with recruitment and hiring of staff within the operational needs and budget, providing for the overall training and development of a highly competent and motivated staff team.
  • Responds to all complaints and inquiries in a timely and professional manner, along with Program Director.
  • Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness with an emphasis on continuous improvement.
  • Assists with Supervision and evaluation of staff and contractors in the implementation of programs, activities, and schedules to accomplish annual objectives and meet community needs.
  • Works with the Program Director to plan, prepare and manage the annual branch Aquatics department budgets that demonstrates growth and advancement of programs.
  • Helps prepare necessary public relations flyers, brochures, and newsletters in conjunction with the association marketing department.
  • Works with peer directors/coordinators to ensure compliance of life saving certification requirements as well as training and drilling of these staff teams.
  • Member of branch leadership team that ensures coverage of high traffic activity timeframes and ensures membership engagement at high level.
  • Participates in and leads staff in the branch's annual giving campaign.
  • Creates new programs to meet expanding needs of the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Represents branch at appropriate Association meetings and local, national, and regional events.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations so that the branch maintains a high degree of acceptance and credibility within the service area.
  • Models the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility while providing and maintaining an environment in which these values are evident to staff, members, and program participants through all levels of the association.
  • Assists with Branch and Association special events as directed.
  • Serves as an effective member of the YMCA of Central Kentucky aquatics core team and provides association leadership as directed.
  • Participates in community activities that promote the YMCA and ensure that positive relationships are maintained with agencies where YMCA programs are held
  • Supervises the writing, collection and storage of documents and reports essential for control, evaluation, and reporting.

  • Strengthen relationships with community resulting in member's ownership and participation in services unique to their needs, knowledge of the four core values and a positive perception of the YMCA.
  • Secured a high quality, safe and knowledgeable YMCA center that can be measured on a national basis.
  • Assists in meeting or exceeding retention and financial goals including annual support, program participants.
  • Increase participation in all segments of membership categories.
  • Development of a well-trained, highly competent and informed staff team, in a climate where creative, quality programs thrive
  • Increase participation in beginning exercisers through programs and increased retention.
  • Development of a wide variety of program services that will meet the needs of the community

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in physical education, sports administration, recreation or family science or a related field of study or five years' experience working in sports program development and supervision.
  • Must possess outstanding public relations skills, tact, diplomacy, and a clear, courteous professional manner with people and enjoy a high degree of interaction with youth, teens and adults within the Y facilities and in the community.
  • Must have knowledge of kinesiology, aquatics or recreation management, event planning and program development is vital.
  • Must enjoy working with diverse community and possess good listening and human relations skills.
  • Must stay up to date on current sports and programs/trends.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification within 30 days of hire and AED, Oxygen, and Blood Borne Pathogens Certifications within 60 days of hire

  • Must be able to make effective presentations to top management, public groups, and board of directors
  • Must be able to persuade and motivate others into action
Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divides in all units of measure.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and be able to interpret data for effective decision-making
Reasoning Skills:
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and data and draw well-thought conclusions for effective decision-making and planning
Office and Computer Skills:
  • Must be able to operate standard office and computer equipment
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must be versed in budgeting and financial software.
