POSITION SUMMARY: The School Age Enrichment Leader position supports the work of the YMCA of Collier County, Inc., a leading not-for-profit organization committed to strengthening the communities in Collier County through its core focus areas of Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. The School Age Enrichment Leader is a vital member of a team of people with the goal of providing excellent care for school aged children (K-5th grade) during out of school hours, holidays, and camp days. Under the guidance of the Site Supervisor, he/she will be responsible for direct supervision of children, implementation of planned daily activities, and maintenance of all aspects of the Program environment. He/she will make every effort to develop and foster a positive relationship with the children, their parents, school personnel, and community members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Be familiar with YMCA mission, policies and procedures.
  • Implement components of the Program as directed by the supervisor.
  • Keep the supervisor informed of all program issues as they arise, especially when related to the children’s behavior and development.
  • Assist with Program procedures for opening and/or closing each day.
  • Take overall responsibility for an assigned group of children under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate daily attendance records at all times.
  • Always monitor and ensure the safety of children.
  • Become familiar with school facilities and staff, school expectations, and ensure same expectations are always being followed with children.
  • Report all problems, incidents, and accidents to supervisor as they occur.
  • Complete written incident and accident reports as necessary with assistance of Supervisor, according to YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Follow all YMCA policies and procedures with filing reports, documentations, and ensuring child confidentiality requirements are maintained daily.
  • Nurture children by designing lesson plans that include purposeful programming that develops social-emotional skills, fosters achievement, supports academic growth and provides enrichment.
  • Participate in weekly planning sessions to prepare and submit lesson plans when due.
  • Preparing classrooms/use areas for daily activities and collaborating with supervisor and co-workers to ensure that all areas are organized and maintained in alignment with YMCA, DCF, and CCPS standards.
  • Maintain and preserve all Program equipment and supplies.
  • Empower students to make positive choices and encourage them to serve as role models amongst their peers.
  • Motivate, mentor, and hold students to YMCA behavioral expectations.
  • Promote a positive relationship with parents by making a point of greeting them daily, sharing good news about their children with them, and informing them of any relevant information in a timely manner.
  • Be to work 15 minutes prior to scheduled shift in uniform, so that you have time to have all electronics put in designated area, personal belongings away, badge on, supplies ready, and are ready to work upon clocking in.
  • Assist with coordination, planning, and execution of specific School Age Department events throughout the year such as (but not limited to) Healthy Kids Day, Lights on Afterschool, Give Where You Live, and either the YMCA Annual Gala or Sneaker Ball.
  • Educate members about the services the YMCA offers and further connect them to the YMCA.
  • Be an enthusiastic, dedicated, reliable and committed leader of our team.

QUALIFICATIONS: Certification in Infant, Child and Adult CPR, and Basic First Aid (preferred)
  • Must have own transportation.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be available to work full day shifts on days when Collier County Public Schools are closed.
  • Must be able to articulate and communicate effectively while instructing participants.
  • Must have a positive attitude and ability to work independently.
  • Desire to work with elementary aged students in their families in economically needy schools and at-risk communities.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence students, staff, community members and families.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability.
  • Committed to the goals of the program and approach.
  • Love and respect for children.
  • Knowledge of children’s sports, games, activities and programming preferred.
  • Content area expertise, and willing to learn and apply skills.
  • Must have outstanding verbal, written, and technological skills (familiar with utilizing Google Drive).
  • Ability to effectively manage a group of 20-25 school age children.
  • Ability to identify student learning needs and be able to deliver appropriately.
  • Ability to recognize children’s social and emotional needs and address appropriately.
  • Ability to take constructive criticism and apply it in day-to-day operations.
  • Ability to thrive, adjust, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to be a team player and assist wherever needed.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Must be able to stand, remain outdoors, and maintain continual physical endurance for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs, watch, listen, and facilitate group activities.
  • Must be mentally alert and be able to process and follow directions.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in the English Language.
  • Onsite attendance is required of this position.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must obtain state mandated training of 45 hours with competency exam completed within 90 days of hire.
  • Completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and Appropriate Touch classes
  • Completion of the YMCA’s Blood Borne Pathogens training
  • Completion of the Social Media & Digital Communications class
  • Completion of the YMCA’s Safe Lifting training
  • Additional training classes as required for this position to meet YMCA quality standards.
