POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the District, Executive Director has the responsibilities and accountability to successfully lead and manage multiple branch operations and implement the policies and programs of the YMCA of Greater Cleveland. This position is accountable for the day to day operations of all assigned YMCA facilities.
Responsibilities includes overall accountability for district operations for all assigned facilities, while also providing leadership to branch board development; branch fiscal management; branch fundraising/annual campaign; branch director selection, member engagement, community engagement, property management; and the carrying out of our Association's strategic plan. The position may also have the responsibility to lead and/or direct Association-Wide initiatives/priorities, programs and strategies.
Because this position is responsible for multiple operational sites, the initiation of timely communication among the branch staff, Association staff, and boards regarding the status of goals and overall operations is critical.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provides leadership and support to associate/branch executive directors within own district to
ensure operational and financial targets are met.
  • Identifies potential areas for branch cooperative programming to accomplish YMCA goals, and
works with staff groups to develop and implement programs.
  • Assists branch staff in the planning, development and implementation of new program initiatives
and activities.
  • Provides leadership and support to the branches to ensure quality, safety and sustainability of
branch operations.
  • Provides leadership and support to the branch executive directors to ensure that fundraising
targets are met. In conjunction with association leadership team and branch executives, develops
annual membership goals and conducts branch reviews for evaluation of execution.
  • In cooperation with the CFO and COO leads the preparation and management of branch budgets
in assigned districts.
  • Supports the implementation of association wide initiatives to attract, recruit and retain members
including marketing strategies, sales and closing techniques, branch engagement and determining
training and support needs.
  • Responsible for ensuring risk management compliance at the branches.
  • Serves and performs the duties of Executive Director at assigned branch.
  • Responsible for Risk Management compliance at the branches.
  • Lead Budget preparation and management in cooperation with the CFO.
  • Review and appraise the effectiveness of directly supervised staff and make appropriate training
recommendations and staff changes where necessary.
  • Supervises the unit operations assigned and selects the branch directors. Provides leadership and
appraises performance.
  • Takes appropriate action where necessary to continually improve upon the fiscal soundness of the
branch units; including working with program leadership to identify new program revenue
generation, membership sales, and enhance program product lines focus and pricing to ensure
optimum participation and financial results.
  • Ensure that supervisees lead and give directions to the branch community board and other
internal and external resources to successfully run the annual support campaign and special
events.
  • Through personal involvement and utilizing individual branch staff, the District Executive
integrates and communicates the objectives and programs of the association to the community
through public communication and participates actively in community organizations.
  • Serves as the primary communication conduit between the branches and association office; and
represents the CEO when necessary at branch and community related functions.
  • Continually reviews and evaluates key performances measures regarding staff, membership,
retention, programs, customer service, fiscal operations, and the physical plant to insure
continuous improvement in each area. Involves the appropriate people, develops and executes
corrective action plans.
  • With assistance of supervisees and other resources, develops and administers a maintenance plan
for facilities.
  • To develop and implement a comprehensive community engagement plan that moves more Y
activities/programs into the broader community.
  • Supervise employees in assigned accountabilities, monitor site operation and scheduling and
verify time sheets and actual hours worked.
  • Identify training needs and initiate development activities of supervisees. Recommend effective
personnel management actions (i.e. employee counseling process).
  • Assure that new employees complete orientation and training according to established guidelines
and provide on the job training as required by supervisees.
  • Ensure duties, responsibilities and accountabilities of all direct reports are defined and
understood. Ensure that the individual understands the standards for acceptable performance.
  • Notify Human Resource Department of job openings, follow hiring and interview process. Make
final selection and maintain qualified staff.
  • Keeps employees informed as to association and branch events, plans and progress on
organizational goals.
  • Responsible for following the child abuse and neglect reporting process including completion of
Suspected Child Abuse/Neglect reporting form, calling children protective services (696-Kids) and
notifying your immediate Supervisor, Branch Executive, Risk Management and Human Resources
Department (s). All employees of the YMCA of Greater Cleveland are mandated reporters for any
signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education:
  • Bachelor's degree, Masters preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 6 years of successful experience that includes management and supervisory
experience.
  • Minimum 6 years of demonstrated regional or multi-team management experience required.
  • Minimum 6 years experience in the areas of volunteer and staff development, budget and fiscal
management, financial development, strategic planning and community development.
Certification(s) and Requirements:
  • Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hire.
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
  • Must possess the insights and skills of modern management (ex. continuous improvement) to
achieve the goals and the objectives of the organization through the efforts of other people.
  • Proven ability to have initiative, good judgment and ability to make decisions independently.
  • Strong public relations skills with excellent written and oral presentation skills.
  • Competent computer skills; Windows, membership, and volunteer database management
software.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and obtain results through others.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with a high volume of work.
  • Must be able to read; must be able to write legibly and in an understandable manner. Must be
able to effectively communicate with and observe program participants, members and YMCA staff.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the mission, cause of the YMCA, and uphold its values and ethics.
  • Ability to work effectively work with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and
perceptions
  • Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and
neglect. All employees are required to follow the child abuse and neglect reporting process:
completion of Suspected Child Abuse/Neglect reporting form, calling children protective services
(696-Kids) and notifying your immediate supervisor, branch executive, risk management and
human resources department (s).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to perform a frequent amount of sitting, standing and walking, reaching, stooping,
kneeling, bending.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy.
  • Ability to multitask in a changing environment
  • May be required to work outside and on occasion may encounter inclement weather.
