POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Development will assist in the implementation of the Association’s strategic developmental goals and provide leadership to assigned GHYMCA branches and their associated Annual Campaign, major gift, planned giving, special event, and grant fundraising programs. The Director of Development will collaborate with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and other Vice Presidents, Branch Executives, outside consultants, and volunteers in implementing the work outlined herein.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. In conjunction with the CDO, Development team colleagues, and Branch Executives, plan and develop the Annual Campaign.
  2. Serve our diverse communities equitably and act with an inclusive, anti-racist lens at all times; promote a brave, respectful culture at the Y.
  3. Continuously monitor Annual Campaign progress at assigned branches.
  4. Coordinate Annual Campaign events, including kickoff and celebration events.
  5. Provide corrective action/strategies to fundraising campaigns, as needed, to ensure goals are met.
  6. Be an in-person resource and provide training, counsel, and direct service to the branches as needed to achieve their fundraising goals. This includes routine prospect research for branch campaigns.
  7. Lead efforts at assigned branches in the identification and cultivation of potential major gift and planned giving donors, as well as Branch Advisory Council members.
  8. Provide leadership and support to assigned branches on special event planning and execution.
  9. Collaborate with Director of Stewardship & Donor Relations on organizational strategies to promote Annual Campaign, special events, mission impact, and various cultivation and stewardship events for assigned branches.
  10. Be active in appropriate professional organizations with CDO approval.
  11. Consistently provide friendly, courteous assistance exceeding customer expectations every day, which includes building and maintaining healthy professional relationships with customers and staff.
  12. Maintain a grants portfolio for assigned branches, as directed by CDO; develop and submit associated applications and reports in consultation with branch executives.
  13. Track all sponsorship entitlements and recognition benefits for all assigned branch sponsors and corporate/foundation donors.
  14. Attend all Branch Advisory Council, fund development committee, special event committee, and staff leadership team meetings at assigned branches.
  15. Perform other related duties as assigned.

PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:

The donor and member relations aspect of this position requires that relationship building be the number one priority at all times, attending to the needs and requests of donors, members, and all people within the Y in a courteous and friendly manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of previous fundraising experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with major gift and planned giving donors strongly preferred.
  • YMCA Branch Executive or Program Director experience a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills.
  • Strong abilities in consensus building.
  • Superior oral/written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills and strong presentation skills required.
  • The ability to effectively represent the Y under a variety of circumstances, including interactions/meetings with funders, staff and volunteers, and networking events.
  • Must be a proactive and creative problem-solver, must be able to work both independently and with a broad range of internal and external partners to develop relationships, facilitate collaboration and achieve results.
  • Demonstrated understanding of fundraising best practices in annual giving, special events and working with volunteers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), Daxko (or similar donor/constituent management database).
  • Experience establishing and cultivating strong relationships with staff and ability to use good judgement, take initiative and make recommendations.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills, with outstanding attention to detail and ability to uphold deadlines.
  • Strong skills in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising. The ability to convey complex ideas via presentations, emails and face-to-face communications.
  • Able to work productively and accurately while under pressure in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Must have a passion for the cause of the GHYMCA, for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Must be able to sit for extended duration.
  • Must be able to keyboard-data entry for extended duration.
  • Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to work at a computer screen for extended periods.
  • Must be able to drive to branch offices with supplies for trainings.
