Job Summary

The Ys Social Impact Center is seeking a motivated, skilled and caring individual for the role of Case Manager II for the Arlington Apartments. Arlington Apartments are located in Tacoma, WA and owned by the Tacoma Housing Authority (THA).The building has 58 units of housing designed for young adults.

This position will work within a team to provide case management services to residents at Arlington Apartments. Services include supporting each participant to achieve their goals towards maintenance of safe and stable housing, employment, education, navigating resources, building community, and developing life skills as they strive for self-sufficiency.

Candidates with direct experience working with young adults (18-24) who are experiencing homeless is preferred but not required. This position will actively engage in the tenant referral process, and ongoing case management of tenants. This position will build and collaborate with other programs within the Y and other external community organizations, along with cultivate and foster working relationships with THA on-site staff.

This position is at the Social Impact Center Y, the social services branch of YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS). The mission of the Social Impact Center Y is to accelerate young peoples ability to build safe, successful, and happy lives. Every year, we serve 5,000 children, youth, young adults, and families across King County with programs that aim to strengthen young peoples ability to develop to their fullest potential through four strategies: reducing risk factors; navigating systems towards successful life transition; ensuring stability, safety and wellness in times of crisis; and building competencies and social capital. The Social Impact Center Ys programs include housing, behavioral health, foster care licensing, violence prevention, education, and employment. Many of the young people we serve have had involvement in the foster care, criminal justice system, and/or homelessness systems.

Position Location/Expected Hours of Work

This position is located in Tacoma, Washington at our Arlington Youth Center. The anticipated shifts are:

Hiring Range: $24.00 $26.40/hr

Responsibilities:
  • Provides specialized services to support young adults achieve their goals in education, employment/career development, safe and stable housing, permanent connections to supportive adults, health and well-being, and life skills.
  • Build strong relationships with Arlington Apartment tenants to provide effective and substantive resources.
  • Develops individualized, strengths-based, development plans.
  • Engage and interview prospective tenants on and off site to ensure consistent building occupancy. Client transportation
  • Helps program participants access and coordinate on site mental health and/or substance use therapy, and other forms of therapeutic support.
  • Understands and uses best practice philosophies in the field, including trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, housing first, harm reduction, de-escalation, etc.
  • Maintains clear, professional, timely participant case notes, progress updates, outcomes, and other documentation in designated databases.
  • Assist in coordinating/leading life skills, job readiness or other subject matter individually and/or in group settings.
  • Teams effectively and collaboratively with other YMCA staff and/or community partners to plan and facilitate activities, including visits to related resources in the community.
  • May assist with program coordination or other activities related to job focus.
  • Transports participants, as needed, for relevant meetings and appointments. Therefore valid drivers license and vehicle are required.
  • Attend weekly/monthly staff meetings and one on one supervisions as scheduled.
  • Ensure that safety procedures are followed and compliance with all YMCA training requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned

Code of Conduct for Applicants

Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree* in psychology, social work or related social services field or equivalent experience, Masters preferred. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  2. Experience working with teens or young adults in employment, foster care, group care, housing, education, juvenile justice, anti-poverty, vocational support, mental health, chemical dependency and/or homelessness fields.
  3. Ability to teach effective independence skills for a variety of learning styles and to plan supportive activities.
  4. Strong youth engagement and relationship-building skills.
  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  7. Ability to transport self and client(s) in a safe and effective manner, and to meet clients at community locations; proof of adequate vehicle insurance coverage is required, or ability to travel to areas without public transportation.
  8. Current state approved First Aid and CPR certification.**
  9. Current approved HIV blood borne pathogens training.**
  10. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
