YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg is Hiring an Executive Director - Speer YMCA Near Saint Petersburg, FL

Under the direction of the Chief Operations Officer, the Executive Director of the Speer YMCA is responsible for the administration of the branch including fiscal management, financial development, and the overall operations of the branch in accordance with the policies, procedures and standards set by the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg. The Director is also a partner with the Principal of Mangrove Bay Middle School, coordinating the activities and operations of this joint facility and it's shared 19-acre campus.

The Speer YMCA is a "Flagship" level YMCA with an estimated annual budget of $3.5M. The ideal candidate will have experience in working with "partnership facilities or programs". The candidate will also have extensive knowledge in hiring, training, fundraising, membership retention, and facility management. This complex partnering with the school and other community organizations makes this position challenging and exciting opportunity.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the operations of the branch, supporting the strategic direction of the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg.
  • Manages the budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives. Ensures operating budgets meet or exceeds the target of the 2024 budget.
  • Partners with the Mangrove Bay Middle School Principal in leading the "Campus Oversight Team", which coordinates all activities on the campus for both the YMCA and Middle School.
  • Maintains a diverse Branch Council that actively support the YMCA's goals and strategic plans. Clarifies and reinforces the division of roles and responsibilities between the Corporate Board, Corporate Staff, and the Branch Council.
  • Leads annual support campaign and other fundraising activities to support branch.
  • Responsible for overall membership and program growth.
  • Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs which support branch and association goals and strategies. Establishes plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with overall YMCA association objectives.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, and supervision of leadership staff.
  • Effectively supervises and develops branch employees and volunteers.
  • Represents and promotes the Y in the local community by developing strategic working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Develop strategies to build an exceptional culture and to motivate the YMCA's team and volunteers to achieve their goals.
  • Serves as a member of the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg's Operations Team and supports the overall objectives of the association.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, social services, business or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years successful leadership/supervisory experience managing outstanding teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple program areas including Aquatics programs, fitness, youth sports, family activities, day camp and collaborative ventures with community partners.
  • Previous YMCA experience strongly preferred.
  • 3-5 years Branch Executive experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of operations, including effective staff supervision and development, successful membership practices, quality program development and implementation, volunteerism, financial development, and facility management.
  • Have proven experience in effectively collaborating with partners to reach common goals and strategies.
  • Must have ability to develop strong, positive relationships with branch volunteers, business and civic leaders, and give dynamic leadership to the Council, Staff and Community.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in alignment with the YMCA core values.
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
  • Requires ability to exercise appropriate independent judgment, to assess facts and issues, and make non-routine decisions regarding day-to-day operational problems and issues.

Salary range $80,000 - $90,000, commensurate with experience, along with excellent benefits including health, dental, vision & life insurance, facility usage, before and after school child care, generous paid time off and YMCA-paid retirement upon eligibility. Clear criminal history and drug screen required.
