Pay Range: Starts at $16.00per hour, depending on experience
Position Summary:
Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Wellness Director, the Personal Trainer will be responsible for the one-on-one training of members while providing excellent member service in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that is both educational and motivational.
Essential Functions:
Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
Ensure safe and risk free environment at all times while meeting the individual needs of the participants
Provide a fun, safe, clean environment for members
Work one on one with members to develop a tailored fitness program
Demonstrate and teach members proper workout and lifting techniques
Provide support and encouragement to members while training them
Respond to and communicate all member concerns and feedback in a timely manner to supervisor
Work a minimum of one Wellness Center shift per week during the first six months as deemed by the Center
Maintain all required paperwork including, but not limited to: statistics, equipment records, and accident/ injury/ incident reports
Maintain all required certifications and CEC’s
Build relationships and interact with members
Attend staff meetings and training sessions
Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA
An enthusiastic personality with the desire to serve members, volunteers, guests, participants and staff to create a culture of service within our Centers
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
Minimum 18 years of age
High school diploma or equivalent required; Two years of college with exercise science related course of study preferred
One year experience personal training is preferred
Certifications Required:
Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training
Before start of 1st shift: PT Certification (ACE, Cooper Institute, NASM, ACSM, ACSM Health/Fitness Specialist, NSCA, ISSA, and NCSF acceptable certifications)
Within 30 days of hire: CPR Pro/ First Aid/ AED
Within 90 days of hire: Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y, Foundations of Listen First, Principles of Member Health and Wellness, Wellness Center at the Y, Foundations of Strength and Conditioning at the Y
All CECs and certifications are at the employee’s expense. The YMCA does not reimburse for these costs.
