YMCA of Southeastern NC is Hiring a FOOD SERVICES COORDINATOR Near Wilmington, NC

Job Title: Food Service Coordinator
FLSA Status: Hourly, non-exempt role
Pay Rate: $15.00/hour
POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Food Services and consistent with the mission of the YMCA and policies and guidelines of the YMCA of Southeastern NC, the Food Services Intern is responsible for assisting the Director of Food Services with oversight of the YMCA of SENC's food programs. New for this summer, the Y has created 5 non-congregate feeding locations in rural qualifying areas. This allows the Y to help feed kids during the summer months who may not have easy access to food when school is not in session. The intern will be responsible for keeping these non-congregate sites running by receiving food shipments at the YMCA, organizing food for distribution, loading food into vehicles, showing up at the non-congregate sites with food and handing it out to members of the community, tracking meals served, and tracking inventory. As needed, the intern will also help with the YMCA’s Summer Food Service Program and Child and Adult Care Food Program.
Essential Functions
  • Assisting with food shipments
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds on a regular basis
  • Moving food boxes from pallets to storage
  • Organizing food in a manner that allows food to be utilized on a first in, first out basis
  • Delivering food to non-congregate sites
  • Setting up non-congregate locations with YMCA tent, tables, signage
  • Distribute food to community members
  • Track meals served
  • Assist in site supervision
  • Planning/implementing end of summer celebrations
  • Taking pictures/videos at meal sites and summer meals events
  • Helping to prepare or package summer meals.
  • Providing nutrition education activities to children at meal sites when opportunity is available
  • Distributing nutrition education materials to children and families when opportunity is available
  • Gather feedback from children and families about the meals received and process of getting meals
  • Developing resources to highlight/share program successes
  • Helping with training program volunteers/staff as needed - Don’t think this needs to be included
  • Assist in keeping sponsorship of CACFP and SFSP in good standing
  • Assist in inventory management of CACFP and SFSP food in addition to non-congregate meals
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • The internship is open to individuals 18 . The ideal candidate will have:
  • Interest in child nutrition and improving food and nutrition security
  • Knowledge or and/or experience with summer nutrition programs or the ability to learn quickly
  • Commitment to working with diverse communities
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work on a variety of projects
  • Dependability, responsibility, and adaptability
  • Organizational skills
  • Ability to drive a cargo van
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and part of a team
  • Ability to follow program guidelines
  • Reliable access to transportation to travel to sites within the community where they will be working
  • Availability to work:
  • Tuesdays 10am to 6:30pm
  • Wednesdays 8am to 3pm
  • Fridays 10am to 6:30pm
  • Other days/times as needed for food shipments
PHYSICAL DEMANDSAbility to plan, lead and participate in activities. Be able to physically lift and move boxes that may weigh 25 pounds on a regular basis.
