YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina, Inc. is Hiring a HEALTHY WEIGHT & YOUR CHILD (NIR FAMILY YMCA) Near Wilmington, NC

HWYC - CONTENT LEADER – BILINGUAL PREFERRED (SPANISH & ENGLISH)
FLSA Status: Part-time, hourly role with specific start and end date
HOURLY RATE: $17/ hour, $18/hour for bilingual 
POSITION SUMMARY: To facilitate the content portion of the Healthy Weight and Your Child program, by delivering the standard curriculum designed for the program. Assist Activity Leader during movement portion of the program as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Deliver the content portion of the program in accordance with YMCA guidelines, following lesson plans accordingly.
2. Encourage group participation and interaction with open-ended questions and facilitate commitment and retention of participants.
3. Builds effective, authentic relationships with children and adults; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages adult and youth involvement in all activities/goal setting and overall participation.
4. Creates a motivating environment that is friendly and non-competitive.
5. Makes learning a shared responsibility for the group.
6. Prepare before each class (i.e. session outline, content for class, reminder call to participants).
7. Provide accessibility to participants both before and after sessions to answer questions and follow-up on any questions you cannot answer during class time.
8. Follow-up with participants outside of class if they are unable to attend
9. Support and encourage goal setting on a weekly basis.
10. Conveys information/program content, as appropriate, refers children and adults to other YMCA programs as deemed beneficial.
11. Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, goal tracking, weight, measurements). Data must be entered within 48 hours of session.
12. Arrive for class on time and dressed appropriately.
13. Foster healthy living behaviors in a holistic manner
14. Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
15. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
16. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
17. Assists Activity Leader as needed, supports participants in all areas of the program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Certifications: Adult/Child CPR/AED and Basic First Aid certification within 1 month of hire.
2. Must be flexible to work with adults and children
3. Must have strong communication skills, the ability to build strong relationships with individuals and build community within a group and have empathy for health seekers. At least 18 years of age.
4. Has been trained in Listen First. Familiar and proficient with Listen First or motivational interviewing required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Ability to conduct energetic classes and activities for youth and adult participants.
2. Ability to lift equipment, perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and assisting youth on/off equipment.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintain a professional demeanor in both appearance and attitude.
2. Perform additional responsibilities and duties upon request.
3. Must be able to facilitate the HWYC program for the full 16-week program cycle
