About this Role

Under the supervision of the Wellness Director, the Fitness Specialist builds relationships with members and provides helpful, friendly and professional support following safe and effective fitness principles. They are responsible for providing a quality experience that meets the needs of health seekers, members, participants and the community.

We are hiring for the following shifts:

  • The shifts needed now are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 5:30p – 8p

Your responsibilities will include:

  2. Relationship Building – Develops positive, authentic relationships within the Y that lead to greater awareness of the Y’s mission and impact, growth in number of people served, as well as revenue. Learns member’s needs and interests through appropriate questioning and listening techniques and provides effective individual supervision and encouragement. Displays empathy in support of helping members and participants build confidence to achieve their health and well-being goals. Intentionally connects members and participants to one another. Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and participants.
  3. Personal Growth – Maintains a high degree of emotional maturity and interpersonal skills and is committed to personal growth and skill acquisition.
  4. Operations & Safety – Understands different health needs in order to adjust activities to serve all. Properly instructs members on the use of equipment and flexibility exercises. Incorporates YMCA mission and core values in daily interactions. Understands and aligns delivery of Healthy Living programs to program goals and objectives. Ensures Wellness Center is clean and all equipment is in working order; updates maintenance records.
  5. Other duties as required.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience working in a fitness facility or customer service.
  • Will complete a Personal Trainer Certification or Foundations of Strength and Conditioning (offered by Y-USA and ACE) within 90 days of hire, or a four-year degree in exercise science or a related field.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills, including an ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with non-English speakers. Ability to speak languages other than English preferred.
  • Utilizes working knowledge of proper exercise equipment, good body mechanics and healthy exercise practices.
  • Exercises good judgment and discretion and provides excellent customer service.
  • Pays attention to detail; applies logical thinking, can solve practical problems and design and implement work processes.
  • Can work with frequent distractions and interruptions and a varied routine; able to handle multiple tasks and demands.
  • Has a current Pediatric and Adult CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
  • Will attend YMCA in-service trainings and maintain certifications.

Salary

$15.00 - $16.00/hour, depending on experience.
