Under the supervision of the Membership Director, the Member Relationship Builder, builds relationships with members, volunteers and the community, supports successful membership operations, and provides helpful, friendly and professional customer service. They are responsible for ensuring the membership department conveys the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Southern Maine. 

Your responsibilities will include:

1. Inclusion - Honor the YMCA of Southern Maine’s Promise Statement. Model a commitment to equity and inclusion. Create a safe environment that helps all feel welcome and respected. Promote feelings of mutual respect, acceptance, and appreciation.

1. Relationship Building – Develop positive, authentic relationships within the Y that lead to greater awareness of the Y’s mission and impact, growth in number of people served, as well as revenue. Greet all members and guests and provide excellent customer service on the phone and in person by providing complete and accurate information to members. Learn current and prospective member’s needs and interests through appropriate questioning and listening techniques highlight how the Y can meet these needs and interests. Listen and express self effectively and with an understanding of the needs of a particular audience. Help coordinate and supports community events at the YMCA and represent the YMCA at outside community events as directed. 

1. Personal Growth – Maintain a high degree of emotional maturity and interpersonal skills and is committed to personal growth and skill acquisition.

1. Operations & Safety – Demonstrate clear knowledge and understanding of YMCA of Southern Maine membership policies and procedures by accurately conveying and implementing with members. Is knowledgeable on all programs and membership events. Incorporate YMCA mission and core values in daily interactions with members. Ensure volunteers are successfully onboarded and ready to contribute to the YMCA mission. Provides training and support to membership desk staff. Provides support at major fundraising events.
2. Data Tracking & Documentation – Maintain accurate and consistent data tracking and documentation, as required. Register members into programs including completion of all paperwork, receipt of monies and data input into software system. Provide administrative support for the organization’s Annual Campaign. Manage all monetary transactions accurately including: accepting payments, issuing receipts, providing change and reconciling cash drawer at completion of shift. Process all membership transactions and Financial Assistance applications effectively and accurately.
3. Other duties as required.

We’re looking for someone who:

• Demonstrates strong communication skills, including an ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with non-English speakers. Ability to speak languages other than English preferred.
• Exercises good judgment and provides excellent customer service.
• Pays attention to detail. 
• Can work with frequent distractions and interruptions

Salary 

Starting at $19.00 - $20.00/hour, depending on experience.

Hours; Mon - Fri 9-5:30
