POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Executive Director of PA Child Care, the Child Care Assistant Director helps implement daily program activities, aligning with the YMCA’s goals and Pennsylvania State Department of Public Welfare regulations.

This role involves treating everyone with respect, integrity, and courtesy; communicating clearly and pleasantly; embracing diversity; being eager to learn and grow; accepting constructive feedback; and working well in a team. This position ensures the YMCA's mission, purpose, image, and core values are consistently upheld.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Coordinate with the Executive Director of PA Child Care to develop the annual budget for the Child Care Center, managing all aspects of the center's income and expenses.
  2. Maintain accurate attendance records for the Child Care Center program and collaborate with the business office to resolve outstanding balances.
  3. Engage with children and staff members daily, embodying the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all program activities.
  4. Plan, coordinate, and implement high-quality programs and curricula for the Child Care Center, adhering to STARS guidelines and YMCA standards.
  5. Establish goals and objectives for the Child Care Program that align with the YMCA’s mission, and review classroom lesson plans to ensure developmental objectives are met.
  6. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise Child Care teaching and support staff, while overseeing tasks such as interviewing, performance monitoring, workload assessment, schedule creation, evaluations, class observations, partnership agreements, and record maintenance.
  7. Perform supervisory functions, including developing job descriptions, setting performance standards, and maintaining staff files, ensuring all staff meet their training obligations.
  8. Facilitate communication and provide leadership by modeling relationship-building skills in all interactions, and review and evaluate staff performance.
  9. Develop strategies to motivate staff and assist them in delivering program services effectively.
  10. Oversee daily operations of child care and licensed school-age programs, ensuring compliance with all state and YMCA requirements.
  11. Participate in training and professional development to stay updated on best practices in early childhood education.
  12. Collaborate with colleagues, teacher’s aides, and supervisors to ensure a high-quality program, and be prepared to assist in other classrooms as needed.
  13. Maintain professionalism and alertness at all times, eliminating unsafe practices, and ensuring the program runs according to the established daily schedule and structure.
  14. Complete additional assignments and responsibilities as directed by the supervisor and/or CEO.

HOURS OF POSITION:

This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

In accordance with the Pennsylvania State Department of Public Welfare, the Assistant Director, shall have attained one of the following qualification levels:

(1) A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 1 year of experience with children.

(2) A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 2 years of experience with children.

(3) An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 3 years of experience with children.

(4) An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 4 years of experience with children.

Prior to the start of employment, documentation of state clearances and completed physical/TB Test must be on-file.
