POSITION SUMMARY:
Develops, organizes, and implements YMCA sports programs of high quality.
This position also treats everyone with courtesy, respect and consideration; displays integrity; listens actively and genuinely; communicates in a clear and pleasant manner; embraces differences among people; demonstrates an active willingness to learn and grow; accepts constructive criticism; works cooperatively as a team member.
Greets everyone by using names whenever possible; extends thanks whenever appropriate; makes relationship building the number one priority at all times. This position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA is conveyed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist in selection and training of all program staff.
2. Assist in recruitment of volunteer coaching staff.
3. Abide by the YMCA Youth Sports Philosophy – teach fair play; encourage involvement & leadership among participants; help participants set and evaluate individual goals.
4. Make sure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards.
5. Maintain inventory of equipment and replace as necessary with approval from supervisor.
6. Create and schedule sports classes, team practices and games as determined by Branch Executive Director.
7. Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
8. Assist with Program Committee meetings where appropriate.
9. Assist Branch Executive Director with compiling program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
10. Perform all other duties assigned by the Branch Executive Director in an efficient and timely manner.
11. Exemplify the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility when dealing with YMCA staff, members and community. Incorporate the core values to the Sports and Teen program curriculums.
12. This job description may not be all-inclusive and duties may be modified when deemed appropriate by the CEO. Employees are expected to perform all other duties as assigned and directed by the CEO.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. One to two years related experience working with youth or children preferred.
3. Effective motivation, management and training skills.
4. The ability to successfully perform job functions independently of daily supervision.
5. Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple priorities.
6. Ability to solve problems proactively and respond to parent/member feedback in a timely manner.
7. Must be proficient with MS office programs.
8. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, presentation, and facilitation.)
