YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge is Hiring an Operations Director - Y at Tanglewood Near Roanoke, VA

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Operations Director provides leadership to Y team members, creates meaningful high quality experiences and ensures successful daily operations of the branch. You will manage the development, evaluation, and growth of membership and various pickleball programs. Your leadership skills, strong organizational abilities, and commitment to the Y’s mission will be essential to the success of this role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Directly manages the Membership Department, all things Pickleball and verses day-to-day operations of the branch.
  2. Builds bridges within the community so that all segments of society have access to the Y.
  3. Effectively communicates community benefit and the Y’s impact for all stakeholders (e.g., staff, volunteers, members, community leaders) develops positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  4. Implement a comprehensive strategy and curriculum to enhance the pickleball program and increase participation in lessons, clinics, classes, tournaments, and other special events.
  5. Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs which support branch and association goals and strategies. Establishes plans for the expansion of membership, programs and services, in harmony with overall YMCA objectives and the leadership team.
  6. Manages the budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives. Ensures operating budgets meet or exceed targets. The Tanglewood Family YMCA budget is over $1M a year.
  7. Recruits, selects, and develops diverse volunteers for the branch board. Clarifies and reinforces the division of roles and responsibilities between corporate boards, branch boards, staff, and general volunteers. (Following no less than 12 months of operating)
  8. Directs the financial development activities of the branch.
  9. Oversees the hiring, training, development and supervision of staff.
  10. Creates and fosters a positive relationship with staff/owners of Tanglewood Mall.
  11. Ensures the safety and maintenance of high quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or Multi-Team Leader Certification from YUSA.
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
  • Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of
    the community.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
