Join our food program team as a Farm to School Educator and help share your love of sustainable, local agriculture with students across Cleveland and Bradley County, TN. As a Farm to School Educator, you will travel between 10 elementary schools teaching students about local agriculture, gardening and growing plants, trying new foods, and scheduling local farm visits. This part-time (15-20 hours/week), grant funded position would be perfect for a person interested in agriculture, nutrition, dietetics, or farming.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Deliver engaging, hands-on weekly lessons, including food sampling, cooking, guest speakers, and field trips in collaboration with program staff and USDA grant guidelines, to students in after school programs
• General lesson planning and supply gathering and transporting supplies to sites
• Build relationships with school community, including principals, partners, staff, and teachers, as appropriate
• Cultivate hydroponic garden in each school served; provide instructional materials on sustainability of garden
• Attend staff meetings & required training

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; one year or more of college preferred
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• A valid driver’s license and access to reliable personal transportation required
• Experience working with diverse populations of youth preferred; Familiarity with equity, diversity and inclusion practices required
• Experience with gardening, farming practices and seed starting preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings, in various temperatures
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs .
