Job Description Under general supervision of the Executive Director of Programs, the SPD Program Director (SPD) - Hockey Operations assumes responsibility for quality programming in assigned ice programs including Youth Hockey, Adult Hockey, clinics, tournaments, and special events. Operation includes hiring, training and supervising strong nonexempt and volunteer staff and building on a strong foundation of success in all areas of operation according to agreed-upon standards. Key segments of this position include program development, budget management, risk management, and relationship-building with staff, program participants and parents. The SPD participates in Association-wide efforts in order to fulfill the operating objectives of the Association in accordance with the policies established by the Board of Directors of the YMCA of Northern Colorado. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, recreation, business or equivalent
Four or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency
Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising
Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations
Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others
Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations
YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred
CPR and First Aid certifications may be required
Essential Functions
Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program and growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members and program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA
Develops and controls department budgets related to the position
Hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Facilitates communication and provides leadership. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions
Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/ boards as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community
Assures compliance with national, state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met, and safety procedures are followed
Ensures high quality programs through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff and volunteers.
Coordinates special events and activities
Ensures implementation of all programs and services according to agreed-upon standards, focusing on quality evaluations and increased member satisfaction, retention and participation
Individually and as a member of assigned staff teams, develops standards, procedures and program models which strengthen the Association's ability to involve and serve a growing constituency, adherence to outside regulations where applicable, observance of YMCA of USA standards and best practices, participation on Association Council(s)
Handles all purchasing requirements for the ice programs with supervisor approval
Represents the YMCA in a professional manner at all times
Provides data and reports as required for assigned programs
