Junior Analytical Chemist- Food

Thompson Station, TN- ON SITE

12 month W2 contract (Likely to extend or transition to perm)

Pay rate : $20-25 / hour - Depending on Education and Experience

Shift : M-F8-4 : 30 (with possibility of weekend work)

We are seeking a motivated analytical chemist experienced with HPLC, GS, and ICP to apply their skills to finished product and raw material testing for a global production company in the food space.

Responsibilities :

• Deliver true, accurate results in a timely manner
• Technical knowledge and expertise in the use and application of specialized analytical instrumentation. Specific instrumentation includes, but are not limited to, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, HPLC, GC, LCMSMS, and Wet Chemistry tests.
• Carrying out routine analysis accurately while following documented methods.
• Skilled in sample preparation, clean-up, separation, and assay.
• Monitors regional laboratory needs on regular basis.
• Operate, manage & maintain laboratory instrumentation.
• Maintains documentation of analytical results in ELN (Electronic Notebook) and / or the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• When appropriate, help to write / create documents for, and always follow laboratory quality management systems ISO 17025 and Mars Global Laboratory Quality Management System.
• Work as a team player including open and honest communication, respecting confidentiality with any laboratory information.
• Follows Health & Safety requirements for Site and Lab.

Context and Scope

• Understands key scientific principles associated with analytical chemistry analysis.
• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety, chemicals management and

chemical hygiene plans.

• Knowledge of statistical methods including sampling plans, statistics and data interpretation including confidence intervals.
• Excellent practical laboratory skills. Ability to troubleshoot and maintain complex analytical instrumentation.
• Experience and skill in the use of the following : Computers, Spreadsheet software (MS Excel preferred), and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
• Excellent organizational skills to adjust to fluctuating workloads and urgent customer requests while maintaining attention to detail.
• Demonstrates ability to follow laboratory safety procedures, maintain accurate records, and clearly and accurately read and interpret data.
• Proven written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in team environment.

Skills or Requirements :

• 2 yrs. experience with chemical and / or physical analyses, preferably in food or related industries (advanced education may partially substitute for required experience).
• Knowledge and accuracy in the use and maintenance of analytical chemistry instrumentation.

Preferred Knowledge and Experience

• 5 yrs. experience performing analytical testing using LCMS, HPLC and GC-FID techniques.
• Experience using SPE for sample preparation.
• Experience working in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.

Education / Experience :

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry
