YORK CONTAINER COMPANY MIDWEST is Hiring a Converting Superintendent Near Elgin, IL

Job Summary:

The Converting Superintendent is responsible for the leadership, management, and technical problem solving of hourly employees to ensure safety, quality, waste, productivity, and training.

Additionally, the Converting Superintendent is responsible for executing the production business plan to meet departmental objectives to include but not limited to the following areas: safety training; accident investigation, managing work schedules, coaching, and training employees, developing corrective actions to proactively address problems and issues, machine waste reduction, set up reduction and increased throughput. In addition, assuring product quality is being produced to specifications. Cross training all direct reports within your respective discipline to ensure a more flexible and well-trained workforce. Following and enforcing all policies and regulations to remain compliant to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides leadership on the operating floor and strives for compliance in safety, quality, waste, and productivity.
  • Responsible for coaching, training, and developing operations personnel in safety, quality, production, problem solving, and technical aspects. Addresses key issues and concerns; and interacts with employees from other departments to ensure quality and on-time production.
  • Ensures all employees are working in a safe manner.
  • Ensures minimum quality expectations are followed and met on a daily basis.
  • Ensures best practices are being followed for minimization of waste at machine centers.
  • Tracks continuous improvement opportunities where performance issues are apparent and provides leadership/action plans for gap closures.
  • Strictly adheres to plant safety, housekeeping, and 6S efforts.
  • Identifies repairs needed at machine centers and creates work requests for completion; follow up as required.
  • Plans, assigns, and directs work for all hourly production employees; appraises performance and provides feedback as needed; assists in resolving complaints; holds employees accountable as needed; communicates issues and results on a daily basis.
  • Must possess problem solving/root cause analysis skills; leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate teams to exceed expectation; communication, planning and organization skills; sense of urgency and accountability; customer focus; ability to work effectively in cross-functional team environment.


Other Functions:

  • The ability to make effective, independent decisions.
  • Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to manage the details.
  • Must be willing to “seek perfection” and have the ability to get others to follow this direction.
  • Must be proactive.
  • Must possess strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate.
  • Computer literate with Microsoft Suite and other office equipment.
  • Possess working knowledge of SPC (Statistical control).
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle a number of issues at one time.

In addition to the functions listed above, the employee is expected to: exercise honesty, integrity and respect with all clients and co-workers, maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, demonstrate a positive attitude, communicate effectively with co-workers and clients, work with accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail, maintain good attendance by working when and where directed, work safely in compliance with all safety policies, respect the work environment and keep it as neat and clean as possible, and exercise initiative to learn new skills and tasks and to help co-workers when possible. The employee is also expected to perform such other duties and functions as required and assigned from time to time.


Machines/Tools/Equipment:

  • Corrugator, Flexo’s, Flat Bed Die Cutters, Rotary Die Cutters, Joiners, Evol, Goepfert, J and L, Turbobox, Mastercut, Printing etc.
  • Personal Protective Equipment as required including steel toe shoes/boots, safety glasses and hearing protection, hard hats and safety vests as needed.

Safety:

Employees are expected to follow all facility safety guidelines that include adhering to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and Food Safety as outlined during their training.


Working Conditions:

  • Non climate-controlled facility with exposure to a wide range of temperatures and humidity.
  • Manufacturing environment working around machinery, moving equipment, and noise levels requiring mandatory hearing protection.
  • A Substantial part of the workday involves standing or walking.

Basic Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience working in a manufacturing, production, industrial or military environment OR 2 years of professional experience and a Technical Diploma or higher in a business or engineering related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience supervising employees within a manufacturing, production, industrial or lead experience within the paper industry.
  • Availability to work shift work and overtime as needed.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word (to write business correspondence), Excel (for use of spreadsheets, reporting, simple formulas) and Outlook (for internal and external correspondence).
  • Must possess problem solving/root cause analysis skills; leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate teams to exceed expectation; communication, planning and organization skills; sense of urgency and accountability; customer focus; ability to work effectively in cross-functional team environment.
  • Ability to make independent, effective decisions.
  • Ability to effectively conduct meetings and training sessions.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle a number of issues at one time.
  • Computer literate with Microsoft Suite and other office equipment.


Preferred Qualifications
:

  • Experience leading an employee training/development program in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Prefer minimum 5 years of corrugated knowledge.
  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, business, engineering, or related field.
  • Experience working in Corrugated Packaging, Containerboard, Folding Carton, or Paper industries.
  • Experience working with CTI application.
