JOB TITLE: Benefits & Payroll Manager

REPORTS TO: VP of People & Culture

LOCATION: Support Center

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

SALARY RANGE: $80,000 - $85,000 DOE

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time

POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Manager of Benefits & Payroll is responsible for the entire employee lifecycle, including employee benefits, payroll, and compensation. This role is critical in providing great internal customer support and driving HR functional excellence and process improvement. The Manager of Benefits & Payroll is also responsible for supporting the core HR function for the Company. The employee possesses a strong customer service mindset, displays` a high level of integrity, and possess the demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally.

Essential Functions:

· Oversee all employee benefits; health and welfare, along with retirement benefits/401k. 

· Ensure compliance with ERISA and IRS guidance; market programs to maximize participation.

· Ensure eligibility of all new participants and a qualifying event is met; troubleshoot claim problems; lead open enrollment; calculate and manage 401k matching contributions; oversee non-discrimination testing and annual audits; Initiates changes/updates/modifications to retirement plan administration policies and practices; represents the company as the primary contact with third-party administrators and other vendors.

· Review Summary of Benefits and Coverage, and plan documents to ensure the plan language is current and compliant.

· Review Form 5500 for accuracy and timely filed with the IRS.

· Ensure employees are paid timely, accurately, and in compliance with federal and state laws.

· Keep current on changing rules, overtime calculations for bonus eligible employees, meal and rest breaks, and related penalties reporting time pay, etc.

· Oversee compliance with garnishments.

· Audit payroll process and time records.

· Monitor the on-boarding process, including I-9 and E-Verify compliance.

· Approve final pay.

· Establish and maintain personnel files for all employees, ensure that State and Federal record retention mandates are met.

· Completion of government-required reporting.

· Time off management and compliance.

· Review the general ledger.

· Communication to employees of policies related to rest and meal breaks, meal break penalties, off-the-clock work, time record changes, travel time, mileage reimbursement, and final pay.

· Ensure compliance with all payroll and tax laws.

· Stay up to date with labor legislation and any changes in employee insurance and tax regulations.

· Oversee merit review process annually, ensuring compliance and approvals; establish and execute merit review plan working closely with supervisors.

· Oversee bonus payments; work closely with Ops leadership to identify potential fairness issues.

· Monitors all pay practices, review, and administer pay changes.

COMPETENCY/SKILLS:

· Excellent writing skills.

· Excellent verbal and presentation skills.

· Strong attention to detail.

· Working knowledge of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

· BA degree or college experience in a related field.

· Demonstrated proficiency with HR & payroll systems.

· Experience implementing system and process improvements.

· Known for completing responsibilities thoroughly, accurately, and timely.

· Able to handle multiple tasks concurrently and prioritize workload effectively.

· Demonstrates strong problem-solving abilities.

Possesses a strong customer service mindset.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While working at the Support Center, the Manager of Benefits & Payroll typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone, and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. The Benefits & Payroll Manager may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While at the Support Center, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle, or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 20 pounds.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bilingual Spanish preferred 
  • High School Diplomaor equivalent.
  • BA degree or college experience in a related field preferred.

 ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:

· Previous experience in the restaurant industry is preferred
