Mission & AuthorityTo directly oversee the operations of several departments which provide mission services and facilitate effective functioning of the entire operations segment of Young Life.
Mission Staff
Summary:Mission / AuthorityThrough both training and direct field ministry experience, learn how to lead and participate in effective Young Life ministry.
Ministry Functions:Spiritual Development — “Following Jesus” includes prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships.
  • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and a sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word.
  • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines, in the context of active participation in a church community.
  • Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
  • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.
Leadership Development — “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.
  • Meet with your volunteer leaders and area leadership on a regular basis.
  • Learn to recruit and train new leaders to build a leadership team that reflects the community.
  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners and camping to other leaders.
  • Assist in training leaders, team leaders and committee how to work effectively in teams and develop a yearly ministry strategy.
Resource Development — “Fueling the ministry” includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding) and TDS team.
  • Raise financial support as directed and maintain good donor care practices.
  • Communicate ministry updates and progress to personal donor partners.
  • Observe and learn to network and develop strategic relationships with key adults in the community, including: principals, pastors, parents, potential committee members as assigned by the area director.
  • Assist with camp fundraisers.
Direct Ministry — “Proclaiming and modeling” includes contact work, club, Campaigners and camp.
  • Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.
  • Lead a team to plan and conduct a new or existing Young Life club and Campaigners/discipleship ministry with excellence.
  • Lead a team to implement a summer and school-season camping strategy for a ministry.
  • Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life camp each year.
Ministry Support — “Taking care of business” includes accounting, administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan.
  • Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management.
  • Manage finances with stewardship, accountability and transparency using the mission-wide applications.
  • Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders and donors for area records.
  • Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to everyone involved in ministry.
  • Set yearly strategic ministry plan and initiatives to reach every kid; review them on a regular basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with gifts, experience and area needs.
Training:Missionwide Training
  • None is required.
  • RTD training events such as New Staff Training, Winter Training, Focus Conferences and Young Life University are available on a request basis with approval of the regional director.
Regional Training
  • There is no mission-wide regional-level training curriculum.
  • At the regional director’s prerogative, certain regional training events may be required.
Area Training
  • Actively engage in training provided by area leadership.
  • Individualized training supervised by the area director designed to develop personal spiritual maturity and enhance personal character.
  • Individualized program to learn and gain competency in ministry skills (e.g., The 5 C’s).
  • Become familiar with area strategy and ministry health as assigned by the area director.
  • Introduction to personal fund-raising principles including familiarity with Basic Elements for Part-time staff.
Education:
  • College degree preferred.
Qualifications Required For The Job:Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Job Specific Working Conditions:Young Life is on mission to recruit, equip and train a team of volunteer leaders to
introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. WyldLife is our
branch of Young Life who pursues this mission with middle school students.
Northwest Twin Cities is looking to hire a part-time WyldLife mission staff to lead one
middle school ministry focused on the city of Orono. This is an exciting opportunity to
develop a ministry and directly impact the lives of many middle schoolers. We are
looking for someone to join our community of staff, committee and volunteers in the
mission of reaching the next kid. We are hoping with this position, to bring more
leadership and concentrated attention to the area and grow and expand our ministry
impact.
Ministry Functions And Responsibilities:Spiritual Development (5%) — “Following Jesus” includes prayer and spiritual
disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships. Your relationship
with Jesus and growing in your faith comes FIRST.
  • Lead by example as a healthy person — spiritually, emotionally and physically.
  • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including
time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and a sincere commitment to
understanding God’s Word.
  • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines, in the context of active
participation in a church community.
  • Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
  • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development (i.e. leader devos, one on
ones, walking through club talks/campaigner lessons).
Leadership Development (50%)— “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes
key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.
  • Meet with your volunteer leaders and WyldLife Director on a regular basis.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Learn to recruit and train new leaders to build a leadership team that reflects the
community.
  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners and camping to other
leaders.
  • Work to build a long-term sustainable WyldLife ministry.
  • Attend Team Leader Training once a month at Westwood Community Center-
Bush Lake
  • Collaborate with area leadership for training leaders.
Resource Development (5%) — “Fueling the ministry” through events, area donor care
and public relations (branding) .
  • Develop a plan to regularly thank and connect donors with the WyldLife ministry.
  • Participate in area fundraising and public relations events.
  • Assist with camp fundraisers and attend occasional committee and adult
functions as assigned (Benefit, Sep. 17th).
  • Build a personal donor base (the first year will be fully funded by Young Life, but
there will be fundraising expectations moving forward)
Direct Ministry (35%) — “Proclaiming and modeling” includes contact work, club,
Campaigners and camp. Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.
  • Lead a team to plan and conduct WyldLife club and discipleship ministry with
excellence.
  • Lead a team to implement a summer and school-season camping strategy for
WyldLife.
  • Develop strong relationships with other community members investing in
students (e.g., teachers, school administration, youth ministers, etc.).
  • Recruit new leaders and committee members that reflect the ministry you are
overseeing.
  • Potentially serve on assigned staff at a Young Life property with input and
direction from the WyldLife Director.
Ministry Support (5%) — “Taking care of business” includes accounting,
administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan.
  • Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism
concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management.
  • Learn to set yearly ministry and personal goals and objectives; review them on a
regular basis.
  • Maintain accurate budgets and expense reports.
  • Practice good communication via email, phone and text. Know and use Google
Drive, spreadsheets, social media and Salesforce.
  • Maintain accurate information on students, leaders and donors.
Training:Regional Training
Attend once a month Team Leader Trainings (one Saturday a month at Westwood
Community Church - Bush Lake Campus)
Area Training
  • Work through job assignments under the supervision of the WyldLife Director
(assignments may be adapted to fit individual needs and the area situation)
  • Receive individualized training supervised by the WyldLife Director designed to
develop personal spiritual maturity and enhance personal character.
  • Give particular focus to an individualized program to learn and gain competency
in ministry skills (i.e. The 5 C’s).
  • Become familiar with area strategy and ministry health as assigned by the
WyldLife Director.
  • Receive introduction to personal fund-raising principles, including familiarity with
Basic Elements for Part-Time Staff
Working Conditions:Will include the extremes of a camp assignment (i.e. heat/cold, dirt, long hours and the
physical demands of hiking, horseback riding, boating and more). Staff person must be
able to handle these conditions.
Qualifications Required For The Job:
  • A mature commitment to Jesus and Christian faith as evidenced by life
transformation and spiritual growth.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit to build and maintain a new ministry..
  • Belong to a local church.
  • Experience (volunteer or paid) with students.
  • Proven relational skills with both students and adults.
  • Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
