Young Life is Hiring a Young Life College Coordinator, University of Michigan Near Ann Arbor, MI

DescriptionYoung Life Greater Ann Arbor is seeking a college coordinator for the University of Michigan. The University of Michigan is currently ranked #3 in Top Public Universities in the United States with approximately 33,000 undergraduates, made up of a substantial population of out-of-state and international students. This college ministry has the unique potential to minister to students from across the globe. The University of Michigan is a highly intellectual campus with students ranging vastly in their experience and exploration of faith in Jesus. This college coordinator will need to be enthusiastic and persistent in reaching and building relationships with lost students. The college coordinator will be supported and supervised by one of the two co-area directors, while partnering with them in leadership of the broader Young Life area. The area currently serves five other active ministries including high school and Capernaum.
ResponsibilitiesSpiritual Development
  • Help ensure that all Young Life ministry in the area is designed and carried out with a dependence on prayer that takes place out of the overflow of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Actively participate in a church community.
  • Assist the area directors in leading the area and individuals in spiritual development.
Leadership Development
  • Work in partnership with area directors to recruit, train, disciple, and develop local volunteer leaders to be sent into the entire Young Life area (including Young Life College ministry).
  • Partner with the area directors and committee to identify, recruit, and develop a strong adult mission community.
  • Build partnerships with community leaders, especially on campus, local churches, campus ministries, and businesses.
Direct Ministry
  • Be an intentional presence on campus four days a week to model excellent contact work.
  • On a regular basis, pursue and meet with non-leadership students in their environments for the purpose of relational outreach ministry.
  • Utilize proven Young Life College methods to carry out a plan for relational ministry on campus.
  • Participate in creatively planning and implementing a regular outreach event — Young Life College club.
  • Develop a student leadership track, giving students who are participants in the ministry ownership and responsibility.
  • Develop a yearlong camping strategy which includes fall weekend, work week, summer staff, and spring break trips.
Resource Development
  • Raise personal support in agreement with area directors and mission community members.
  • Work alongside the mission community to raise local financial support for Young Life College ministry.
  • Maintain healthy donor-care practices in partnership with the mission community through a strategic yearly Relationship Centered Engagement plan.
Ministry Support
  • Maintain accurate information on students, leaders, and donors for ministry records.
  • Provide clear, prompt, appropriate, and professional communication to everyone involved in the ministry.
Training
  • Attend Eastern Great Lakes Region’s monthly staff meetings and development days.
  • Participate in yearly training in accordance with Young Life’s Learning and Leadership department.
  • Participate in Young Life College specific training or experiences to continue personal and professional development (annual Young Life College National Summit, monthly Young Life College All Calls, etc.).
Qualifications
  • A deep love for Jesus, knowledge of God's Word, and ability to lead others to Christ.
  • Strong passion for outreach ministry including a demonstrated desire to build relationships with college students of all backgrounds, races, cultures, and circumstances.
  • Grasp the idea of “relational ministry” and earning the right to be heard in the community.
  • A heart for the “furthest out” students, particularly those who may be opposed to Christian faith.
  • Proven track record of self-starting, taking initiative, and ability to upkeep various responsibilities at the same time.
  • Possess a desire to build ministry and be a pioneer on the university campus.
  • Willingness to maintain a varying schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
  • Comfortable developing and recruiting adult relationships to build community support.
  • Demonstrated predisposition to initiate relationships and collaborate with church ministries and other campus ministries.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Willingness to live in the local area (this includes the city of Ann Arbor and towns of Dexter, Ypsilanti, and Saline).
  • Three years of Young Life or college ministry experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
