Young Women's Freedom Center is Hiring a Program Manager - Oakland Near Oakland, CA

Position Overview:

The Program Manager for Oakland Site is responsible for ensuring that YWFC’s programs are consistently meeting their goals and objectives. As the supervisor and mentor for youth staff, this position provides consistent training and learning opportunities so that staff can achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives, implement programs and activities, and creates & maintains safe and pro-active spaces where young women and trans youth of all genders* of color that have grown up in poverty can teach and learn from one another while simultaneously building community.

Using YWFC’s Theory of Change and core methodologies, the Program Manager ensures that the YWFC Oakland site moves from a place of harm reduction, education as a practice of freedom, and progressive youth development theory, ensuring they are present in all program components and activities. The Program Manager oversees all program operations, thus maintaining all data and administrative systems related to the delivery of effective service and programmatic functions, including overseeing all reporting requirements and supervision of program staff.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Work in collaboration with Site Director and Oakland team to develop annual goals, execute various projects, provide training and direction to youth services, and support staff ensuring they are meeting the expectations of their positions and have the tools and resources to meet the expectations of their positions.
  • Oversee hiring process for interns to ensure contract deliverables are met and includes a recruitment and interview process run by youth
  • Ensure all youth staff have clear job descriptions, solid work and leadership plans and training trajectories that are in alignment with organizational and programmatic goals.
  • Build supportive supervisory relationships with youth employees through daily or weekly supervisions and serve as their primary point of contact for all questions and concerns, including daily check-ins, overseeing time and attendance of interns, andPayCom timesheet approval.
  • Facilitate coordination with other team members on site supervision and work plans of interns, and facilitation of appropriate trainings, work duties, workshops and other activities for Siblings on the Rise Internship
  • Develop and implement comprehensive outreach strategies based on organizational and Oakland site goals for base building and recruitment, and ensure all youth staff have the necessary skills, training and support to fulfill outreach duties
  • Collaborate with the Statewide Leadership Team and other team members as assigned to develop trainings on building organizing capacity and skills for to step into their roles as Community Organizers, and to ensure the work of the interns is integrated into outreach strategies, organizing campaigns, ensure interns are aware of all research and organizational initiatives, and additional work at site, including youth coach ups, and meeting debriefs of important coalition meetings
  • Ensure youth staff and participants have support to advocate for themselves and the resources they need in the community and/or opportunities to connect with YWFC Self-Determination staff
  • Coordinate across sites and teams on an ongoing basis to ensure collaborations amongst sites, engagement in Research projects, local policy work, and other initiatives prioritized by the organization.
  • Build authentic, deeply supportive relationships with youth participating in programs and or ensure staff working with youth are maintaining YWFC standards of conduct, exemplifying YWFC values, and utilizing YWFC methodologies and frameworks.

Reporting & Evaluation:

  • Maintain and enter data into appropriate data systems for reporting for both city and county, and foundation grant requirements and internal organizational systems/databases in a timely manner
  • Maintain weekly program notes, and collect data pertaining to programmatic goals to contribute to quarterly progress reports
  • Facilitate weekly Mic-Check meetings with other team members to ensure holistic support and additional support strategies needed to better support participant, and ensure accurate reporting
  • Oversee all reporting requirements for your respective work plans (monthly reports, data collection, operations reports, Supervision check ins, etc.) and ensure all proper forms are completed, progress is monitored, and data is updated.
  • Provide monthly program summaries to the Site Director including quantitative and qualitative data of all programmatic activities, trainings and outcomes pertaining to programmatic goals for programs
  • Ensure programs are evaluated and updated on an ongoing basis ,and that feedback and findings from evaluations are used to develop, revise, and update programs and activities
  • Track participant attendance and engagement, and provide support and accountability to youth fellows and interns around consistent attendance and engaged participation, including conducting and documenting learning opportunities, verbal and written write ups and developing transition plans when needed

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

  • Attend regularly scheduled supervision and other planning and strategy meetings as set by the Site Director and Senior Leadership Team.
  • Facilitate regular program strategy meetings and weekly 1:1 supervision meetings with staff
  • Build and maintain relationships in the community that increase YWFC’s ability to fulfill its mission, and increase the success of programmatic efforts
  • Work with the Oakland Director to identify opportunities to increase your visibility in the community that directly increase YWFC’s impact including; Commissions, Boards, Committees, etc.
  • Work to ensure the organization’s mission, vision, and guiding principles are a guide to your work at the Center and that all program activities, curriculums, etc. are developed based on these principles
  • Manage special and additional projects, and tasks as needed and directed by supervisor and other YWFC Directors in efforts to support the advancement of YWFC and site goals
  • Create ongoing opportunities for leadership development of young women that we work with including opportunities to learn new tasks and skills, take leadership in the work, and engage in ongoing opportunities.
  • Respond to emails, text messages, and other correspondence in a timely manner
  • Participate in YWFC events, staff meetings, trainings, and staff development opportunities on an ongoing basis.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Deep familiarity in California and local site socio-political landscape and youth service providers, and passionate about youth, community development, issues of youth leadership.
  • The person must be comfortable, mature and professional in interacting with diverse community partners, custody staff, students and colleagues with diverse heritage and backgrounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as problem-solving skills, demonstrating the ability to interact. effectively with program participants, staff colleagues, board members, external stakeholders, and public speaking events.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet and handle multiple deadlines and tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and general computer/ internet use.
  • Willingness and ability to grow professionally, be accountable, and to expand skills and adapt to evolving organization environments and constantly changing circumstances.
  • Must be able to meet participants in the field and community, and attend external meetings outside of the designated office as an essential function of this role (Driver’s License Strongly preferred).
