Youth Opportunity Center is Hiring a Training Specialist Near Muncie, IN

FLSA Status: Full-Time Non-Exempt, Hourly

Division: YOC Training

Reports To: Director of Training

POSITION SUMMARY

The Training Specialist oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of training programs aimed at enhancing employee’s skills and knowledge. Ensure that all staff members understand the YOC’s philosophy, training expectations, agency policies, and general procedures comprehensively. Conducts observation, assessment, and skills competency testing, while ensuring accurate implementation within the organizational environment. Provides corrective action and reports findings for both trainees and mentors. Additionally, assists in creating internal and external training opportunities for professional development and maintains precise documentation of training materials and requirements. Cultivates professional relationships internally and externally. Strong communication and organization abilities are essential, along with the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.

PRIMARY JOB EXPECTATIONS

1. Training

  • Serves as a certified trainer for all skilled trainings, and other trainings as needed.
  • Conducts trainings on both campuses and at times required to accommodate various shifts.
  • Consistently observes direct care staff members and mentors in the milieu for competency and provide on- site, in-the-moment feedback.
  • Disseminates post training quizzes/tests, skills competency observations and in-the-milieu observations.
  • Supports staff who are completing trainings through the Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Assists the Director of Training with development and analysis of new and current trainings.

2. Coordination

  • Develops and distributes New Employee Training Plans (NETPS) to supervisors.
  • Maintains a pool of trainers and substitutes for all trainings and monitors expiration of certifications.
  • Develops an annual and monthly training calendar and training cycle, in addition to, standard and additional training opportunities in an effective and timely manner.
  • Ensures the readiness and condition of training rooms, equipment, materials, and supplies.

3. Communication

  • Distributes trainer evaluation reports to appropriate supervisors.
  • Accurately tracks all employee’s annual training hours and distributes training compliance report to the appropriate personnel.
  • Oversees the Training Feedback Forum for new hires and disseminates information gathered.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE NEEDED

Preferred associate degree from an accredited university with at least two years of experience in residential or behavioral treatment; or high school diploma and three years’ experience in residential or behavioral treatment. Requires strong assessment and assertiveness skills, and excellent verbal and written communication, as well as demonstrated leadership ability.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS NEEDED

  • Results orientation
  • Certification in skills training and able to demonstrate all physical intervention methods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer application skills (Microsoft Office experience required; database and LMS experience strongly preferred)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

WORKING CONDITIONS

Typical work week is 40 hours (Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm). Position requires additional hours when necessary to complete special projects or meet specific deadlines. The Training Specialist will have regular contact with the YOC program/clinical staff members, members of office administration, and YOC direct care staff members. Courtesy and professionalism are always expected.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to demonstrate and perform all skills required for SCM training.

COMPENSATION

This position is full-time, and compensation includes a competitive hourly rate and benefits plan.
