This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.  

Under general supervision, performs work of routine difficulty assisting with public health services in the field and/or in the office; this position has department specific responsibility.

(Illustrative Only) Administer immunizations and process and update records; prepare patient for examination, procedures and treatments; measures and records vital signs or health status of client/patient; performs various laboratory and measurement procedures; prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas; assists Public Health Nurse with home visits and/or educational programs in the community; schedules appointments and referrals; answers, screens and routes phone calls; types records and reports; enters data into computer; maintains program files and confidential health records; assembles, copies and organizes educa­tional material; participates in disease detection and surveillance systems and investigations, related to communicable disease; interviews patients to obtain epidemiological information and determine contacts; maintains inventory of educational and laboratory materials and supplies; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.

High School Diploma or GED; Medical Assistant certification required. One (1) year of experience in clerical work, preferably in a health related setting; bi-lingual in Spanish and English preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; must possess or have the ability to obtain a fingerprint clearance card within 3 months of hire; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license; requires successful completion of a background check.

Knowledge of: County policies and procedures; basic health princi­ples; basic health promo­tion and preven­tion of disease; computer systems.

Skill in: Word processing and record keeping; maintaining confidentiality of health information; testing procedures.

Ability to: Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; follow written and verbal instructions; operate general office equipment; effectively respond to phone calls, emails and complaints in a timely manner; sit, stand, bend and lift up to 25 pounds; maintain a high standard of confidentiality; perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without a reasonable accommodation.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing. Working at a computer monitor for extended periods required. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under extreme likelihood of verbal abuse from hostile and frustrated customers and may have risk of exposure to communicable diseases.
