YWCA Yakima is Hiring a Bilingual Children’s Advocate Near Yakima, WA

Reports to:

Program Director

Main functions:

This position provides advocacy-based counseling to youth and their mothers residing in a domestic violence shelter. Responsibilities include developing and implementing trauma informed programs and activities. Also answers crisis calls providing crisis intervention in person and on the phone, maintains safety and security of YWCA facility, and occasional transportation.

Supervisory:

Childcare Volunteers

Duties:

  • Provides advocacy-based counseling, trauma informed domestic violence education for youth through discussions one on one, art, follow-ups, daily contact, and recreation.
  • Completes a shelter youth intake with family.
  • Meets with mothers to provide parenting education on domestic violence and the impact on children.
  • Organizes and supervises youth activities, youth support group, one on one and field trips.
  • Answers crisis calls; provides crisis intervention and information; makes referrals to other service agencies as needed.
  • Maintains security and safety of the YWCA facility.
  • Attends YWCA staff and advocate meetings.
  • Attends workshops and training pertinent to your job.
  • Document services provided.
  • Maintains all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of participants and the shelter at all times.
  • Provides emergency transportation to participants as necessary.
  • Monitors compliance with Shelter rights and responsibilities; interacts with participants to promote and model appropriate behavior; assigns and supervises tasks for participants.
  • Review needs and tasks in the Shelter; provide input for improvement in team meetings.
  • Provides oversight of the childcare volunteers.
  • Provides childcare during scheduled appointments.
  • Participate in team staffing regarding children and client services

Minimum Employment Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish.
  • One year of social services experience with youth and their parents or relevant experience.
  • Skills in crisis intervention and management.
  • Training related to counseling, crisis intervention and family violence.
  • Knowledgeable of principles of childhood development.
  • Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to work with women and families in crisis.
  • Ability to keep accurate records & logs.
  • Excellent telephone and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to set a positive tone within organization.
  • Ability to maintain participant boundaries.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality under extreme pressure.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance (provide Washington State driving record)
  • Must pass Washington State criminal background check.
