Position Description

The Institutional Research Strategic Data Analyst is an On Campus position.
The Data Analyst plays a critical role in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to support strategic planning, daily operations, and data-informed decision making. This role also provides technical assistance, programming, and reporting services of college data and ensures accurate and timely data reporting to state and federal agencies, internal units, and external organizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Analyze, report, and present data extracted and synthesized from a variety of complex internal and external data sources (including but not limited to Jenzabar One and related data, IPEDS, HEI, and National Student Clearinghouse) as needed for improved data-informed decision-making and planning across the institution.

Utilize SQL, Power BI/Power Query, InfoMaker, Excel, and other related software and programming to develop, maintain, and update basic queries and reports against the institution’s internal data to fulfill recurring data needs for internal and external reporting requirements

Create statistical and analytical reports, dashboards, and data visualizations as needed for improved data-informed decision-making and planning across the institution

Assist with the preparation, validation, and reporting of official institutional data to both external and internal stakeholders including required state and federal reporting (e.g., state HEI and federal IPEDS reports)

Coordinate with various offices across the institution to address institutional data integrity and reporting compliance

Serve as an institutional data and information resource for various campus initiatives, projects, and committees to support a data-informed approach to planning, evaluation, and decision-making

Maintain appropriate documentation such as data sources, file locations, query logic/methodology, tools, and issue/problem resolutions

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Associate degree with Bachelor’s preferred in computer science, economics, mathematics, statistics, information science, business analytics or related field

A minimum of one year of experience in querying, analyzing, and reporting data. Experience in the higher education sector and with Jenzabar One preferred

Must possess good analytical and organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across all segments of the institution

Must have the ability to communicate complex concepts and information to a wide variety of stakeholders

Knowledge and experience in data querying, analysis, and visualization. Experience with SQL, Power BI/Power Query, and advanced Microsoft Excel preferred.

Ability to prioritize multiple projects independently and as part of a team
