What does the job entail?

  • The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible in partnership with the VP of Operations for all aspects of air, waste, chemical, and water-related regulatory compliance, permitting, and enforcement issues.
  • Partner with HR and oversee space planning to ensure the continuous maintenance of our offices to support the Company's growth, as well as management of the day-to-day office infrastructure, and other activities.
  • Collaborate with the Legal and HR teams on Company-wide EHS initiatives, policies, and procedures, and work closely with VP of Operations and senior leaders to anticipate, assess, and manage EHS impacts on the business.
  • Oversee EHS laws, regulations, compliance and safety-related internal investigations while staying current on emerging trends in all facets of environmental & health and safety laws and regulations and reporting trends and developments to leadership
  • Work directly with Legal and Human Resources on investigating and responding to requests for information, notices of complaint, incidents, OSHA, environmental, and EHS-related agencies.
  • This role is extremely hands on and will be accountable for all safety and security, developing emergency response planning, and developing and implementing company policies.
  • Oversee external contractor work in close collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Lead emergency response planning, including the design of evacuation plans and disaster recovery.
  • Lead Safety Committee and initiatives
  • Lead Safety documentation and procedures
  • Responsible for HazMat and certifications
  • Serve as lead point of contact with Property Management and ensure compliance with lease agreements
  • Manage building inspections and ensure fire and office codes are current
  • Take accountability for physical security, including badge management, alarms and visitor management and policies.
  • Partner with Engineering, R&D, Service, and Production departments to ensure EHS compliance and a safe working environment.
  • Monthly KPI report out to leadership
  • Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned

More practical skills needed:

  • Ability to contribute to wider corporate objectives, working with other Leaders
  • 3-5 Years of Environmental, Health and Safety Experience
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Ability to work effectively with other functions to ensure alignment on direction and business needs
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams, and to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced environment, where demands and priorities change rapidly
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues to a variety of internal business partners with varying degrees of familiarity with the field of EHS
  • Ability to quickly absorb material and distill pertinent information to provide timely and effective feedback to leadership
  • Comfortable rolling up his/her sleeves and being hands-on, with a mature, “can-do” attitude and the ability to instill confidence in oneself among business partners
