With a growing finance team, we are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounts Payable Finance Assistant to support the smooth running of our financial operations.
Role Overview
The Accounts Payable Finance Assistant will be responsible for ensuring the efficient processing of supplier invoices, payment reconciliations, and maintaining strong relationships with vendors. This role is critical in supporting the finance team’s objectives and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable Processing:
Process high-volume supplier invoices, ensuring accuracy and correct coding.
Match invoices with purchase orders and resolve discrepancies.
Maintain the accounts payable ledger, ensuring timely and accurate data entry.
Process supplier payments in line with agreed payment terms.
Manage supplier queries, ensuring prompt resolution.
Reconcile supplier statements and follow up on outstanding balances.
Assist in month-end closing activities, including accruals and reconciliations.
Other relevant duties as required.
Financial Administration & Compliance:
Ensure compliance with company policies and financial controls.
Assist with VAT returns and ensure correct VAT treatment on invoices.
Support internal and external audit requirements by providing necessary documentation.
Maintain accurate records and assist with financial reporting as required.
Collaboration & Process Improvement:
Work closely with procurement and operational teams to ensure efficient invoice processing.
Identify opportunities for process improvement within accounts payable.
Support the wider finance team with ad hoc tasks and projects.
Key Competencies & Skills:
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and work to deadlines.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Strong numerical and analytical abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software (experience with Sage or similar accounting systems is an advantage).
Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications & Experience: Essential:
Previous experience in an accounts payable or finance assistant role.
Understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
Desirable:
AAT qualification or equivalent (or working towards one).
Experience working in a fast-paced environment, preferably in the environmental or construction sector.
