Your skill set.
- Master’s degree in architecture and degree in historic preservation or related discipline
- Proficient with Revit & AutoCAD; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
- Familiarity with the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties
- Familiarity with principles of architectural integrity as they relate to historic buildings
- Experience working in team environments
- Strong technical skills related to historic preservation techniques and philosophy
- Knowledgeable in the development of construction documents for existing buildings
- Effective analytical, organizational, and writing skills
- Ability to survey and assist in evaluating historic building materials and construction
- Highly motivated and organized with a demonstrated attention to detail
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, or possess a work visa to legally work in the U.S.
A day in the life of a preservation designer.
- Assist historic preservation architect with drafting/drawing support, problem solving, design, and applying preservation principles to work on existing buildings.
- Collaborate with a team of historic preservationists to complete Historic Structure Reports (HSR), Preliminary Architectural Reports (PAR), condition assessments, historic paint analysis, and similar uniquely related preservation techniques, including (but not limited to) existing building as-built verification and measure up, research, photography, drafting, and report writing.
- Research historic methods of construction and modern materials that meet preservation compliance review and applicable code(s)
- Innovatively apply historic preservation principles in the context of modern construction
- Learn probable costs and sources for a wide scope of preservation approaches, products, materials, tradespersons, and services
- Attend and record meetings with clients, project team members, and stakeholder groups
- Strive to learn and improve, never settling for the status quo
