Description

A&K Railroad Materials is a leading supplier of new and used railroad track materials. A&K has sales offices and a network of storage and distribution facilities strategically located throughout the United States. Together, these offices and inventory locations maintain an extensive and comprehensive inventory of new, relay, and reconditioned rail and track materials across North America. Our mission is to discover and develop innovative solutions that promote lasting railway infrastructure.

The Accounts Receivable Specialist will support the accounting department by recording incoming payments, maintaining accurate customer accounts, initiating contact with customers on outstanding invoices to reduce past due and bad debt exposure, providing excellent customer service, supporting other accounting functions as needed, and participating in special projects to help drive improvement. The Associate may interact with his or her supervisor several times a week to receive guidance and feedback.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Receive, process, and record incoming payments to the company and its affiliates
  • Ensure payments are properly posted to customer accounts and research short pays, over payments, and related adjustments
  • Perform reviews of cash sales and related reporting
  • Reconcile international billings
  • Identify test reports and assignments to rail cars
  • Document dates on contractor reference sheets for lien notices
  • Run credit reports and maintain customer files as requested
  • Complete credit references assigned by Credit Manager
  • Assist with approving Sales Orders in the system
  • Provide assistance to other accounting teams during month-end
  • Generate monthly reporting as needed
  • Collect mail from PO Box as needed
  • Participate in special projects as required

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE)

  • Associates degree in an accredited Accounting or Finance program
  • At least 2 years of accounts receivable / collections experience required
  • Experience working with Microsoft 365 products e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Experience with accounting software. Dynamics 365 a plus.

  • Proficient project planning skills, including the ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities to meet deadlines in an environment with overlapping and potentially conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to assertively solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Demonstrated capacity for gathering and scrutinizing data to identify issues, opportunities, patterns, and sustainable business solutions.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Ability to comprehend and adhere to all A&K Railroad Materials Inc policies, including those related to scheduling and attendance, confidentiality, conflict of interest, honesty, and ethical conduct.
